Job Title:
Distillation Technician Job Description The Distillation Technician operates and oversees specialized equipment used in distillation processes to produce target compounds from specified raw materials. This role involves performing temperature checks, completing batch records in accordance with GMP and SOPs, conducting product inspections, and providing samples for quality control testing. The technician records critical process data, enters information into internal tracking systems, and actively supports continuous improvement of procedures and production processes during an overnight shift. Responsibilities Operate and monitor distillation equipment to process target compounds and batches from specified raw materials. Perform temperature checks and ensure all process parameters remain within specified limits throughout each batch. Complete batch records accurately and thoroughly in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Carry out necessary calculations for product specifications and process requirements, ensuring all values are accurate and documented. Inspect products at defined stages to verify quality and consistency, and provide samples for quality control testing as required. Record various data points related to the distillation and production process, maintaining accurate and timely documentation. Use computer systems to input and update information in internal tracking systems and production records. Follow best practices and established SOPs while actively contributing ideas to improve processes and efficiency. Handle and work with chemicals, raw materials, and batches safely in a manufacturing setting. Collaborate and communicate with colleagues at various levels, maintaining a straightforward and professional approach. Work independently during the assigned overnight shift, managing tasks and calculations with minimal supervision. Safeguard and properly handle expensive ingredients, ensuring minimal waste and adherence to process specifications. Essential Skills Experience operating or supporting distillation, purification, or related chemical processing equipment. Ability to perform accurate calculations related to product specifications and batch processes. Strong attention to detail when recording data, completing batch records, and following GMP and SOP requirements. Comfort using computer systems to input data into internal tracking and documentation systems. Capability to work independently and manage tasks during overnight shifts (10:00 p.m.-6:30 a.m. or 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.). Minimum of a high school degree with demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and processes. Willingness and ability to learn unique, detail-specific processes in a manufacturing environment. Ability to handle chemicals safely and work in a production, compounding, or batch-making setting. Effective communication skills to interact clearly and directly with colleagues at various levels. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in distillation operations is preferred. Previous experience working in a GMP-regulated environment is preferred. Background in chemistry, chemical handling, or laboratory work is beneficial. Experience with fractional distillation, steam distillation, compounding, blending, or batch making is an advantage. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and production environments is helpful. Demonstrated ability to work different shifts as required. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing-type setting where the Distillation Technician works primarily on an overnight shift (10:00 p.m.-6:30 a.m. or 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.). The environment is independent and fast-paced, requiring the ability to run detailed calculations, manage documentation, and handle expensive ingredients with care. Team members typically wear casual attire such as jeans and a T-shirt, appropriate for a production environment. The culture reflects a family-owned, work-hard/play-hard atmosphere with straightforward communication, where employees interact with colleagues at various levels and are expected to be dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable entering data into internal tracking systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
