Rotating weekends and holidays Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Automation Specialist is responsible for supporting laboratory automation and specimen processing operations. This role provides staff training, troubleshoots automation issues, maintains equipment and quality control processes, and works closely with service technicians to minimize equipment downtime and ensure efficient laboratory operations. Key Responsibilities Provide training, guidance, and technical support to laboratory staff working in automation and specimen processing areas. Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control processes. Monitor laboratory automation systems and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with minimal supervision. Investigate automation error trends, test code builds and updates, and specimen tube-labeling compliance. Prepare reports and analyze automation performance to identify opportunities for improvement. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within specimen processing areas. Serve as the primary liaison with equipment service technicians during maintenance, servicing, and repairs. Troubleshoot automation failures and equipment issues while minimizing operational downtime. Perform required equipment maintenance, function checks, and quality control procedures with appropriate documentation. Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory equipment and work areas. Follow all laboratory, safety, quality, and regulatory policies and procedures. Maintain patient confidentiality and access protected health information (PHI) only as required to perform job responsibilities. Required Qualifications Registered Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) OR bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science.
ASCP MLT
certification required. Typically 5 years of experience in an IT or clinical laboratory environment. Experience with moderate to complex business process mapping, analysis, requirements gathering, acceptance testing, and documentation. Strong understanding of LIS interfaces . Experience with laboratory automation systems and specimen processing . Strong equipment troubleshooting and maintenance skills. Ability to independently identify and resolve automation failures .
