As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Why does the job exist? The Lead Engineering Technician manages the district's Bridge Maintenance Program, performs bridge inspections, updates project inspection reports, assists the Engineering Manager in planning and scheduling of bridge projects, estimating project costs and overseeing bridge projects within the district. How does it get done? Key responsibilities for this role include performing bridge inspections district wide for state and locally owned facilities. Ensures compliance with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) rules and regulations involving, but not limited to, bridge inspection, preservation, and maintenance. Incumbent performs highly complex collection, analysis, and interpretation of data and participates in the preparation of reports utilized by professional and managerial staff. Who are the customers? District Three, the taxpayers of New Mexico, and the traveling public. Ideal Candidate District Three, the taxpayers of New Mexico, and the traveling public. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results. Will be required to obtain Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to Nuclear Densometer, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, Aggregate, Soils, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Traffic Control and SWPPP. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions: hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
