Job Summary:
The Production Technician provides hands-on, direct labor in the production of prepreg, adhesives, and advanced composite materials. This position is responsible for operating manufacturing equipment, preparing raw materials, monitoring production processes, maintaining quality control standards, and ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental regulations. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to precise production instructions to achieve consistent product quality and efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Operations Measure, weigh, and mix raw materials (resins, hardeners, fillers, additives, solvents, etc.) according to batch production records (BPRs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Operate mixers, pumps, filters, coating machines, and other process equipment. Monitor resin temperature, coating weight, line speed, and reaction time parameters throughout production runs. Load and unload materials into process vessels, machinery, etc. Perform packaging processes for finished materials, store properly and promptly in temperature-controlled storage cooler. 2. Quality Control Collect in-process and finished product samples for laboratory testing. Record batch data, test results, and observations accurately in production logs. Report any deviations, off-spec materials, or equipment malfunctions immediately to supervisors. Support quality assurance staff during product inspections and audits. 3. Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping Perform routine cleaning of mixing equipment, containers, tools, and work areas. Conduct basic preventive maintenance and inspections of production machinery. Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals, waste, and finished products. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace in compliance with 5S and GMP principles. 4. Safety & Compliance Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards, including proper use of PPE (masks, respirators, gloves, goggles, proper footwear etc.). Participate in safety meetings, emergency drills, and hazard communication training. Handle hazardous materials according to SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and company protocols. Report spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions promptly to management. 5. Teamwork & Communication Work collaboratively with other operators, maintenance technicians, and supervisors to meet production targets. Communicate equipment issues, process concerns, and improvement ideas effectively. Support & collaborate with inventory handling/management, R D, and quality control teams as needed. Provide shift handovers with detailed production updates and status reports.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred. 1-3 years of experience in chemical, resin, coatings, or plastics manufacturing preferred. Experience with batch processing and chemical handling strongly desired. Spanish-speaking or bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Skills & Competencies:
Understanding of chemical process operations and safety protocols. Ability to read and interpret batch sheets, SOPs, and technical instructions. Strong attention to detail and quality awareness. Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Comfortable working with automated or manual control systems. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving processes and technologies
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and stand for extended periods. Exposure to chemical fumes, noise, and temperature variations (proper PPE provided). Must be able to wear respirators and other protective gear as required. Shift work may be required (day, night, weekends, or rotating schedule).
