Control Panel Technician Job Description The Control Panel Technician assembles electrical enclosures used for the measurement and control of hydrocarbon and chemical products, as well as power and water applications. This role focuses on mounting electronic control hardware, performing precise panel wiring, and terminating input and output signals in accordance with established standards and practices. Responsibilities Assemble electrical enclosures for measurement and control systems used in hydrocarbon, chemical, power, and water applications. Mount electronic control hardware into electrical enclosures following established standards and practices. Terminate input and output (I/O) signals from electronic control hardware to terminal blocks with a high level of accuracy. Measure wire lengths accurately and select the appropriate wire color for each I/O channel. Strip insulation from wires and land each wire end under screw terminals, ensuring proper tightening and secure connections. Perform point-to-point wiring and panel wiring using detailed schematics and blueprints. Use hand tools such as wire crimpers, wire strippers, pliers, hand wrenches, and hand saws to complete panel assembly tasks. Operate small power tools, including cordless drills and sabre saws, safely and effectively. Follow directions, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to complete assemblies to specification. Handle and distinguish multiple wires and wire color combinations in tightly packed terminal areas. Work with small terminals in confined spaces, maintaining dexterity, discipline, and attention to detail. Utilize basic PC skills, including word processing and email, to support documentation and communication needs. Adhere to safety procedures and best practices while working with electrical components and tools. Support cross-training efforts by learning additional tasks within the department as needed. Perform physical tasks such as reaching, bending, crouching, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds in the course of daily work. Essential Skills Proven experience with panel wiring, electrical assembly, and point-to-point wiring. Ability to read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints. Strong attention to detail when working with electrical wiring, terminals, and panel components. General hand and finger dexterity to terminate small wires into closely spaced screw terminals. Ability to handle, identify, and organize multiple wires and wire color combinations accurately. Proficiency using hand tools such as wire crimpers, wire strippers, pliers, hand wrenches, and hand saws. Ability to safely operate small power tools, including cordless drills and sabre saws. Capability to lift up to 50 pounds approximately 10% of the time. Ability to stoop, reach, bend, and work inside metal enclosures for extended periods. General PC skills, including the use of word processing software and email applications. 3+ years of experience building complete electrical control panels or whole units independently (preferred). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with panel building in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Familiarity with electrical panel standards and best practices for control systems. Demonstrated ability to work with tightly packed terminal blocks requiring precision and discipline. Comfort working with measurement and control systems for hydrocarbon, chemical, power, or water applications. Willingness to cross-train in other tasks or departments to broaden skills. Work Environment The role is based at a workstation within a manufacturing facility where you will frequently reach, bend, crouch, and work inside metal enclosures. You will occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and have the option to perform tasks while sitting or standing. The primary work area is currently non-climate controlled, with the facility working toward full climate control; the valve department is already climate controlled. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a typical shift adjustment to 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the summer months due to heat. You must be able to work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when needed for overtime. The environment involves regular use of hand tools and small power tools, and requires adherence to safety practices appropriate for an industrial electrical assembly setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lewisville, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
