$18•$19/hr depending on shift Position Overview The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for performing essential quality and food safety functions to ensure that incoming raw materials, packaging materials, production processes, and finished products meet established company, customer, regulatory, and food safety standards. The QA Technician works closely with the QA Supervisor, QA Manager, production personnel, sanitation teams, and USDA personnel to monitor product quality, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance throughout the manufacturing process. This position requires strong attention to detail, accurate documentation, and the ability to identify and report deviations from established specifications. Employees will work for extended periods in refrigerated production areas and must be able to tolerate consistently cold temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to 0 degrees throughout the work shift. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Enforce company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety policies throughout the facility. Conduct required pre-operational inspections of production equipment, processing areas, and facilities prior to production. Perform ATP swabbing and environmental swabbing according to established procedures and schedules. Monitor sanitation activities and verify compliance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs). Accurately complete required sanitation monitoring and verification documentation. Inspect and monitor the quality and condition of incoming raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-process products, and finished products. Monitor metal detection equipment and rejection systems and document required verification checks. Monitor and record finished-product weights to ensure compliance with established specifications. Measure and document raw material, in-process, and finished-product temperatures. Evaluate the physical, chemical, and sensory characteristics of raw materials and finished products. Complete required QA records and documentation for each production line according to company procedures and customer specifications. Perform HACCP monitoring and verification for applicable Critical Control Points (CCPs). Immediately identify and report deviations from established food safety, quality, regulatory, or customer specifications. Place affected product on hold when required and follow established procedures for controlling nonconforming product. Report foreign-material findings and assist with investigations to determine the potential source and corrective action. Monitor food security, food defense, and food safety practices throughout the facility. Ensure testing and monitoring equipment is properly cleaned before use. Maintain accurate, complete, legible, and timely QA documentation. Communicating quality or food safety concerns promptly to appropriate management. Assist the QA Supervisor, QA Manager, and Quality Assurance Department with additional inspections, testing, investigations, documentation, and other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Must meet client-specific background checks, drug screening requirements
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to accurately complete written and electronic records. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify deviations from established specifications. Ability to work in extreme cold temperatures. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, food manufacturing, food processing, or a production environment. Previous experience working in a USDA-regulated food processing facility. Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SSOPs, food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance procedures. Experience performing ATP testing, environmental swabbing, product sampling, or quality inspections. Experience monitoring Critical Control Points (CCPs). Experience with metal detector verification and product-hold procedures. Familiarity with calibration and verification of QA testing equipment. Experience completing production, quality, food safety, or regulatory documentation. HACCP, food safety, or related quality certifications are preferred but not required unless specified by the client. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills may be beneficial in a production environment. Work Environment This position is performed in an active cold food production and processing facility. Employees will work for extended periods in refrigerated production areas and must be able to tolerate consistently cold temperatures throughout the work shift. Certain areas of the facility may reach temperatures as low as approximately 0°F in freezer areas. Employees may experience temperature changes when moving between refrigerated production areas, freezers, coolers, docks, and other areas of the facility. The work environment may also include: Cold and refrigerated working conditions for extended periods High and constant noise levels Damp, wet, or slippery floors Exposure to food products and food-processing materials Cleaning and sanitation chemicals Operating production equipment and machinery Forklift and material-handling equipment traffic Potential electrical, chemical, mechanical, and temperature-related hazards Employees must wear all required PPE and cold-weather protective gear and comply with company GMP, food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Work for extended periods in a refrigerated/cold production environment. Tolerate temperatures that may reach approximately 0°F in freezer areas. Frequently bend, stoop, reach, squat, twist, and perform repetitive movements. Regularly handle, inspect, sample, and evaluate raw and finished food products. Lift, carry, push, or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Safely navigate wet, damp, cold, and potentially slippery production floors. Work safely around operating production machinery and forklift traffic. Tolerate high and continuous noise levels. Use hands and fingers to operate testing equipment, computers, measuring devices, and QA tools. Possess sufficient vision to inspect products, packaging, labels, equipment, and documentation. Possess sufficient hearing to communicate and recognize alarms, equipment sounds, and safety warnings. Use sight, smell, and touch as necessary to evaluate product quality and sensory characteristics. Wear required PPE, food-production protective equipment, and cold-weather protective clothing for extended periods.
