Job Summary:
This position efficiently and effectively oversees the daily processes of the Sterile Processing Technicians and assures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, ICARE values, and strategic initiatives of MWHC Health System and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to our patients, physicians, the public and co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Oversees the daily activities of the Sterile Processing Technicians to ensure timely and accurate processing of instrumentation and reusable supplies. Assists in scheduling and monitoring of Sterile Processing Technicians to ensure expected coverage and efficiency. Performs routine technologist duties and demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of reprocessing, sterilization and instrumentation activities. Monitors department quality control to maintain effective operation and meet organizational standards. Oversees non-administrative duties to include ordering of instruments and supplies, ensures accuracy of count sheets and other duties as required. Coordinates central supply services with operating room functions, nursing units, and other user departments in order to provide services promptly and efficiently. Establishes effective work relationships and maintains positive communications with the Operating Room and other areas of the hospital. Resolves customer satisfaction and quality/ performance issues to ensure smooth daily operations and quality service during off-hours. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure their continued availability and non-interruption of services. Responsible for shift reports to Manager and each other Responsible for staff education regarding new instruments/products and processes Responsible for all record keeping for all sterilizers/biologicals Responsible for prioritization of scheduled and unscheduled cases Acts as liaison for SPD and OR Maintain CRCST while employed at MWHC Assigns staff to their appropriate work areas Responsible for shared call as needed to include weekends and Holidays Responsible for front line supervision of all SPD associates Attend meetings as delegated by Manager Performs all technician duties during work shift Performs other duties as assigned. FASC - Associates not responsible for shared call as needed to include weekends and holidays.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. CRCST or CSPDT certification required, CIS/CHL preferred. Minimum of two years of Sterile Processing experience required and must demonstrate the ability to successfully perform all job skills required of the Sterile Processing Technicians-certified Excellent communication and telephone skills required. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a high stress area. Demonstrated computer skills preferred. Required Physical Requirements:
Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, and sitting; occasional (0-33% of workday) bending, stooping, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination.
Mental Requirements:
Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards:
Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
