Production Operator (DSP) Vancouver, WA 12-hour Compressed Day Shift, 6am-6pm Job Description The Production Operator (DSP) runs multiple pieces of automated polishing and cleaning equipment used in silicon wafer manufacturing within a semi-cleanroom environment. This role follows complex, highly detailed procedures to polish and clean wafers on both sides to exact customer specifications, using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to ensure quality and consistency. Operators work 12-hour shifts on a compressed workweek schedule and play a key role in maintaining safe operations, precise process control, and defect-free products. Responsibilities Run and monitor multiple automated polishing machines to process silicon wafers using alkali polishing slurry according to detailed customer specifications until wafers are free of defects. Operate and oversee wafer cleaning processes to remove residual slurry from wafer surfaces and ensure they meet required cleanliness specifications. Use metrology equipment to measure and verify wafer flatness, thickness, and other critical parameters, ensuring all results meet customer and process specifications. Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodology to measure, identify, and correct process variations, and to eliminate defects throughout the polishing and cleaning operations. Continuously monitor, analyze, and verify process data, order specifications, weights, and calibrations during and after each process step before moving orders to the next stage. Use a computer and Excel to input data, track and confirm each process step, and complete computerized forms and labels for each order in accordance with all requirements. Operate robotic and other automated equipment to load and unload wafers, tools, and related components, ensuring safe and accurate handling. Respond to and troubleshoot tool alarms, taking prompt action to resolve machine or quality issues or escalating to a team leader, supervisor, trainer, or other appropriate personnel when needed. Perform routine cleaning of equipment and work areas to maintain standards required for each manufacturing process and to support a semi-cleanroom environment. Multi-task effectively by monitoring the movement and status of wafers on multiple tool sets simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Review work orders thoroughly to understand product requirements, machine settings, and process steps before running double-sided polishing machines. Follow all documented training, procedures, and processes to meet quality standards and ensure orders are completed on time and without defects. Identify, report, and take action to prevent variations, errors, or lapses in quality, and ensure quality issues are corrected and not repeated. Suggest improvements to processes, quality, and efficiency by communicating ideas to supervisors or appropriate managers. Complete all tasks using safe work practices, always placing safety ahead of deadlines or production goals. Act as a safety role model for co-workers and remain highly cautious when working near moving mechanical parts and hazardous or volatile chemicals. Work effectively in close proximity with other team members or independently in designated areas, maintaining teamwork and clear communication. Adhere to attendance, advance notice, and call-in policies for absences in the manufacturing area to support stable operations and team reliability. Essential Skills Ability to stand for long periods during 12-hour shifts and perform frequent bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, reaching, and grasping throughout the workday. Capability to push, pull, and guide product and machine parts in and out of machines, exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs repeatedly throughout 12-hour shifts in an environment with limited opportunities to sit or rest while working. Comfort working around hazardous and volatile chemicals and in close proximity to moving mechanical parts while following strict safety procedures. Availability to work all hours and all shifts, including day and night shifts, every other weekend, and overtime as required or requested. Strong attention to detail, quality focus, and ability to follow complex, detailed procedures without deviation. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute percentages and decimals using a calculator, Excel, or other methods. Proficiency using a computer, keyboard, and monitor to input data accurately, track processes, and complete computerized forms and labels. Ability to use software such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook email; experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) or similar software is highly desired. Effective English communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearly with management and co-workers. Ability to read, comprehend, and explain instructions, procedures, technical manuals, reports, and correspondence written in English. Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to monitor multiple tool sets and processes at the same time while maintaining accuracy. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior production or manufacturing experience is preferred, particularly in environments such as warehouse, semiconductor, or other high-volume operations. Experience with quality assurance practices and methodologies is beneficial. Familiarity with SPC tools and concepts is desired for effective process monitoring and control. Ability to operate common office and communication equipment such as a calculator, copier, cell phone, and telephone. Demonstrated teamwork, collaboration, and willingness to support co-workers and overall production goals. Time management skills to meet deadlines and production targets within a compressed workweek schedule Work Environment The role is based in a semi-cleanroom manufacturing environment dedicated to silicon wafer production. Operators work 12-hour shifts, either 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for day shift or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for night shift, on a compressed workweek schedule that alternates between 3 days on/4 days off and 4 days on/3 days off, requiring work every other weekend and occasional additional overtime. Night shift employees may begin training on day shift for several weeks before transitioning. The environment requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including hair nets, safety glasses or goggles, latex or latex-free gloves, safety shoes, and a company-provided two-piece scrub-style uniform; ear plugs are optional. Work is primarily performed standing, with continuous walking and movement around automated and robotic equipment, metrology tools, and chemical processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr.
