Processing Equipment Operator FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Summary Under the supervision of the shop foreman, the Processing Equipment Operator cuts multiple different types of plate, sheet, structural shapes, other materials on multiple different pieces of processing equipment. The operator may have to load, program, operate, maintain, unload, as well as general troubleshooting tasks for all the equipment types. Equipment operation can be, and not limited to: a CNC plasma table, robotic plasma structural processing machine, structural tube laser, fiber plate/sheet laser(multiple), water jet, saw, etc. The individual in this task should be able to understand general blue prints/files to verify part quantity and quality, to print. This person should have experience in equipment operation- specifically metal processing equipment. Experience with crane/forklift loading/unloading is strongly encouraged. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. 1. Loads files from network file locations and initiate at machine. 2. Operates multiple machines and learns unique machine operations quickly. 3. Troubleshoots and performs preventative maintenance on laser and plasma tables. 4. Positions work piece onto table or into fixture or with jib or crane. 5. Selects carbon or metal-coated carbon electrode, gas nozzle, electric current, and gas pressure, according to thickness and type of metal, data on charts, or record of previous runs. 6. Inserts electrode and gas nozzle into holder and connects hose from the holder to compressed gas supply. 7. Turns knobs to select amperage. 8. Turns lever to adjust jet of gas to blow away molten metal. 9. Strikes arc and guides electrode along lines to cut (melt) through metal. 10. Cuts off chips or spurs and burns out cracks and holes. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Requires education generally equivalent to a high school diploma. Experience in working with/running laser and plasma tables for steel sheet and plate processing, and forklift operating experience is required. Previous welding experience is preferred.Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Qualifications Ability to operate various applicable software(s) utilized by the organization to perform duties of the position.
