Full Job Description Overview:
The CNC Lathe Machinist / Operator sets up and operates CNC turning centers to manufacture precision metal and plastic components to engineering requirements. The position reads job travelers and engineering drawings, selects and sets tooling, establishes offsets, monitors machining operations, performs first-piece and in-process inspection, and makes routine adjustments to maintain quality, safety, and productivity.
Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC lathes/turning centers; verify workholding, tooling, programs, offsets, and machine readiness before production. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, job travelers, setup sheets, and written work instructions. Select and install inserts, boring bars, drills, and other cutting tools; set tool and work offsets and make permitted minor program or offset adjustments. Monitor feeds and speeds, tool wear, chatter, surface finish, and dimensional stability while machining metal and engineered-plastic components. Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment; accurately document results. Maintain specified tolerances and stop production or notify appropriate personnel when a nonconformance or process issue is suspected. Troubleshoot routine machining issues and coordinate with Programming, Quality, and supervision on corrective actions and process improvements. Perform basic preventive maintenance and daily machine care; maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established safety and quality procedures.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; machining certificate, apprenticeship, journeyman credentials, or relevant associate degree preferred. Minimum 3 years of hands-on CNC lathe setup and operation experience in precision manufacturing; 5+ years preferred for complex, low-supervision work. Demonstrated ability to independently set up and run CNC lathes from prints, travelers, and setup documentation. Strong blueprint-reading, GD&T, and shop-math skills, including practical algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Proficiency with precision measuring tools and first-piece/in-process inspection practices. Working knowledge of CNC controls and G/M-code logic; CNC programming or CAM experience preferred but not required. Experience with live tooling, sub-spindles, tight-tolerance aerospace/defense/medical work, or
ISO/AS9100
quality systems preferred. Basic computer proficiency and ability to use the personal machinist tools required for the position.

Pay:
$28.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
