Job Title:
CNC Operator Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC 3-axis mills to produce precision components used in composite sealing systems, primarily for aerospace applications. You will begin in the deburr area to learn the company's finishing standards and then transition to CNC machines that best match your background. Over time, you will have the opportunity to work with various machines and processes, support molding operations, and contribute across different areas of the machine shop in a clean, safe, and collaborative manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Begin in the deburr area for approximately three weeks to learn and demonstrate proper deburring and blending of metals according to quality standards. Set up and operate CNC 3-axis mills, including Mori Seiki and Fadal machines, to produce parts to specification. Load parts into CNC mill machines, select and run the appropriate program, and monitor machine operation during production runs. Work with a variety of materials including aluminum, copper, brass, carbon steel, and chromalloy. Grind, finish, and deburr parts to achieve required surface finishes and dimensions. Use a paperless system to access setup sheets and work instructions at each workstation. Perform basic quality inspections using vernier calipers, digital micrometers, drop gages, depth micrometers, and other precision measurement tools. Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements. Measure and examine completed products for defects, ensuring they meet dimensional and visual quality standards. Evaluate part finishes for cutter wear or damage and communicate issues that may affect part quality. Mill and drill parts to precise specifications, including milling out gaskets and grooves where other operators will install rubber seals. Support molding operations as needed by operating rubber molding machines, including lifting molds into place, inserting metal frames and rubber filling, and engaging the mold to press and melt the rubber. Keep busy between machine run times by deburring other parts, setting parts up in the tumbler, and teaming up to support other areas of the machine shop. Perform basic machine setup tasks to prepare equipment for production, including loading tools, fixtures, and programs. Maintain productivity by meeting established production metrics and cycle times in a high-volume environment. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in the machine shop and molding areas. Collaborate with coworkers in deburr, assembly, molding, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and on-time delivery of parts. Use G and M code knowledge as needed to support CNC setup and operation. Essential Skills At least 6+ months of CNC operating experience or 3+ years of machine operator experience in a production environment. Proven ability to set up and operate CNC machines independently. Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine machining and inspection requirements. Experience operating CNC 3-axis mills, including loading parts, running programs, and monitoring machine operations. Ability to work independently and stay productive with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to meet production metrics and performance targets in a manufacturing setting. Hands-on experience with deburring, grinding, and finishing metal parts. Proficiency using precision measurement tools such as vernier calipers, digital micrometers, drop gages, depth micrometers, and other gauges. Comfort working with metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, carbon steel, and chromalloy. Basic understanding of G and M codes for CNC operation. Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting molds and handling parts during machining and molding operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with Mori Seiki and Fadal CNC machines. Exposure to Haas mills or similar CNC milling equipment. background in milling gaskets and grooves for rubber seal installation. Familiarity with deburr, feed, grind, and timesaver operations in a machine shop environment. Experience with rubber molding machines, including inserting metal frames and rubber materials and operating presses. Ability to evaluate cutter wear and surface finish and communicate tooling or process issues. Comfort working in a paperless environment using digital setup sheets and documentation. Experience in an assembly environment performing tasks such as riveting, notching, and installing fasteners. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Willingness to cross-train in multiple areas such as machine shop, molding, and bonding operations. Why Work Here?
