CNC Machine Operator Job Description This role involves setting up and operating CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers to produce high-quality components according to engineering specifications. You will machine parts using detailed blueprints and routings, perform precise inspections with measuring tools, and make basic CNC program and tooling adjustments to maintain accuracy and productivity in a busy industrial environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers in accordance with established procedures and standard work instructions. Machine components by following blueprints, routings, and standard work to meet dimensional and quality requirements. Load and unload fixtures and accurately position large components using cranes and other material-handling equipment. Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, bore gauges, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances. Make basic CNC program adjustments using G-code and M-code to correct dimensions and improve part quality as needed. Perform tool changes and basic tool offsets to ensure consistent machining performance. Monitor machine operations, identify issues such as tool wear or dimensional drift, and take corrective action promptly. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow standard safety practices in an industrial machine shop environment. Work on your feet throughout the shift and safely lift and move items up to 50 pounds as required. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and support continuous improvement initiatives. Work overtime and occasional weekends as needed to support production demands. Essential Skills Previous CNC operator experience on a mill or a lathe. Hands-on experience operating milling machines and lathes in a production environment. Ability to set up and operate CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Basic understanding of CNC programming, including G-code and M-code, to make minor program adjustments. Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and bore gauges for part inspection. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, routings, and standard work instructions. Capability to perform basic tool changes and adjust offsets on CNC machines. Physical ability to stand on your feet for the entire shift and safely lift up to 50 pounds. Comfort working in an industrial, dusty, non-climate-controlled machine shop environment. Willingness to work 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m.-11:10 p.m.) or 3rd shift (approximately 11:00 p.m.-7:10 a.m.), Monday through Friday, with overtime and some weekends as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol controls is a strong plus. Prior experience operating multiple types of CNC equipment, including mills and lathes. Familiarity with large-plant operations and working within a high-volume production environment. Comfort using overhead cranes or similar equipment to move and position large components. Interest in career growth into higher-level machinist roles or leadership positions. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Work Environment The role is based in a large industrial machine shop environment within a very sizable plant employing approximately 1,800 people. The facility is not climate controlled and can be dusty, reflecting a typical heavy industrial machining setting. This is a physically demanding position that requires being on your feet throughout the entire shift and regularly handling materials up to 50 pounds. You will work around CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment, as well as overhead cranes used for positioning large components. Shifts are primarily on 2nd shift (about 3:00 p.m.-11:10 p.m.) and 3rd shift (about 11:00 p.m.-7:10 a.m.), Monday through Friday, with overtime and some weekend work available as production needs arise. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and consistent production in a high-volume manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jefferson, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
