Job Title:
CNC Lathe Machine Operator - 1st Shift Job Description This role focuses on operating CNC lathe machines, primarily Haas and OKUMA equipment, to complete production runs in a job shop environment where quality is prioritized over quantity. You will interpret blueprints, set up and operate CNC lathes, change tooling, and perform precise inspections using micrometers and calipers to ensure each part meets customer specifications. Responsibilities Operate CNC lathe machines, including Haas and OKUMA equipment, to complete production runs according to job orders and specifications. Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, tolerances, and tooling requirements. Set up CNC lathes by installing and adjusting tooling, workholding, and computerized instructions as required for each job. Change tooling and adjust offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish throughout production runs. Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and edge finders to verify part dimensions and quality. Deburr and handle parts carefully to meet customer requirements and prevent damage or contamination. Monitor machine operations, identify issues, and troubleshoot basic machining and CNC control problems to minimize downtime. Maintain a strong focus on quality over quantity, especially during long production runs, ensuring consistent and repeatable results. Work with both CNC lathes and, as needed, CNC mills to support production requirements within the machining department. Follow established safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and contribute to a well-kept machine shop environment. Collaborate with other operators and departments such as fabrication, packing, assembly, and welding to support overall production flow. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with CNC lathe operations in a production or job shop environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately. Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and edge finders for precision measurement and inspection. Basic understanding of CNC controls and cutting tools, including setup and operation. Basic mechanical skills for handling tooling, fixtures, and machine adjustments. Ability to deburr and handle parts to meet customer quality requirements. Capability to install and work with computerized instructions on CNC machines. Experience with machine operation and machining processes, particularly CNC lathes and mills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating Haas CNC equipment, including lathes and mills. Experience in CNC milling and general machining in a job shop setting. Familiarity with CNC programming concepts and tools such as Mastercam. Troubleshooting skills for resolving basic machining and equipment issues. Experience performing quality inspections using a variety of precision measurement tools. Exposure to both lathe machines and milling machines within a multi-machine department. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time 1st shift position. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; when operating on 10-hour schedules, the shift runs from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an additional 5-hour shift on Saturday if necessary. The facility currently operates on 10-hour shifts. You will work within a machining department that houses approximately 24 CNC machines, primarily Haas equipment, with a mix of mills and lathes. The team includes multiple CNC lathe operators and other machine operators. The machine shop is well organized and clean, and you will interact with several departments, including machining, fabrication, packing, assembly, and welding. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient workflow, with access to modern CNC technology and precision measurement tools. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cary, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $62400.00/yr.
