Swiss CNC Lathe Setup Technician / Operator

Corp. is seeking an experienced Swiss CNC Lathe Setup Technician / Operator for our high-volume manufacturing operation. This hands-on position is responsible for setting up, adjusting, troubleshooting, and operating Swiss-style CNC lathes used to manufacture repeat-production parts. The successful candidate will complete machine changeovers, install tooling and guide bushings, set offsets, make basic program adjustments, inspect finished parts, and keep machines running efficiently. This is primarily a machine setup and operation position—not a CNC programmer position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Set up and operate Swiss-style CNC lathes for high-volume production. Complete job changeovers using established CNC programs, setup sheets, tooling lists, drawings, and work instructions. Load and verify the correct programs for assigned production jobs. Set up and adjust guide bushings, collets, bar feeders, sub-spindles, live tooling, and related equipment. Install and align cutting tools, holders, inserts, and workholding components. Set tool geometry, work offsets, pickoff positions, speeds, feeds, and other machine parameters. Make basic edits and adjustments to existing CNC programs when authorized. Produce first-piece samples and obtain inspection approval before beginning a production run. Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, dimensions, and tolerances. Use micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, pin gauges, thread gauges, and other measuring equipment. Perform regular in-process inspections and make offset adjustments to maintain part quality. Monitor machines for tool wear, dimensional changes, surface-finish problems, chip-control issues, and material-feeding problems. Replace worn or damaged tooling and make necessary machine adjustments. Troubleshoot machine alarms, tooling interference, guide-bushing issues, bar-feeder problems, part-transfer issues, and out-of-tolerance conditions. Monitor material usage and ensure bars are properly loaded and feeding correctly. Maintain established cycle times and production output without compromising safety or quality. Minimize setup time, downtime, scrap, and rework. Accurately record production quantities, inspections, scrap, downtime, and tooling information. Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on machines, bar feeders, and related equipment. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Follow all safety requirements, quality procedures, and established work instructions. Communicate production, quality, or equipment problems to the appropriate personnel. Assist with training machine operators on production checks, tool changes, and proper machine operation. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of CNC lathe setup and operating experience, including hands-on experience setting up Swiss-style CNC lathes. Experience in a high-volume or repeat-production manufacturing environment. Ability to independently perform machine setups and production changeovers. Understanding of Swiss-style machining principles, including sliding-headstock operation, guide bushings, bar feeding, and part transfer. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and work instructions. Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment. Working knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, tool offsets, speeds, feeds, and tool wear. Ability to make basic adjustments to existing CNC programs. Ability to perform shop mathematics using decimals, fractions, and basic geometry. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to maintain quality and productivity during extended production runs. Dependable attendance and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Technical school, machining certificate, or related vocational training. Hands-on setup and operating experience with Hanwha and Citizen Cincom Swiss CNC lathes. Familiarity with the control systems used on INNER-TITE's Swiss machines, including FANUC Controls. Working knowledge of G-code and M-code. Experience with sub-spindles, live tooling, cross-drilling, milling, part pickoff, and back-working operations. Experience setting up and troubleshooting automatic bar feeders and parts conveyors. Experience with EDGE automatic bar feeders. Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Experience improving cycle times, tool life, chip control, setup efficiency, and overall machine uptime. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to frequently reach, bend, stoop, and handle tools and materials. Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work safely around moving machinery, metal chips, cutting fluids, oils, noise, and other normal manufacturing conditions. Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Pay:

$27.13 - $33.59 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
