ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures. Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems. Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, change tooling, setup, or work piece placement according to required machining sequences. Lift work pieces to machines manually. Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation. Set up and operate computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal work pieces. Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications in order to detect malfunctions. Monitor coolant systems. Maintain machines and remove and replace broken or worn machine tools, using hand tools. Stack or load finished items, or place items on conveyor systems. Clean machines, tooling, and parts using solvents/solutions and rags. Discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications. Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems and assist in identifying and correcting these problems. Mark items with details such as grade, acceptance or rejection status. Observe and monitor production operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications and make or order necessary process adjustments. Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards. Read dials and meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels. Remove defects, such as chips, burrs, lap corroded, or pitted surfaces per established standards. Adjust, clean, or repair products or processing equipment to correct defects found during inspections. Set controls, start, and monitor machines that automatically measure, sort, or inspect products.
