Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our clients manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and setting up CNC machines, including lathes and milling machines, to produce precision components according to technical specifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in CNC set ups and CAM software, and an understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T standards. Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC machinery such as CNC lathes and milling machines, ensuring proper calibration and alignment using precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines. Read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications to accurately program and configure CNC equipment. Develop and modify CNC programs utilizing CAM programming tools; troubleshoot issues related to CNC programming and machining processes. Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment, including tool changes, tooling adjustments, and inspection of tooling wear using hand tools. Conduct quality checks on machined parts using precision instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and bore gauges; document inspection results. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to optimize machining processes, reduce waste through lean manufacturing principles, and improve cycle times. Maintain a clean and organized work area; adhere to safety protocols related to electrical discharge machining (EDM), welding, plastics injection molding, and other manufacturing operations. Assist in training new operators on machine operation procedures, tooling setups, and safety standards.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a CNC Set Up Operator or similar role within a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code; experience with Fanuc controls is preferred. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T standards, mechanical principles, and machining techniques. Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM), CAM programming software, SolidWorks or CAD for part design review. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including plastics injection molding and welding. Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines. Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, tooling setups, and basic math skills for measurements. Valid forklift certification is a plus; commitment to safety practices in a fast-paced production setting. Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles to promote continuous improvement.
