Job Description

SUMMARY Peterson Spring is looking for a highly motivated individual to learn the process and assist in the production of coils. We are committed to continuous innovation as well as the development of new products and technologies. We are looking for motivated individuals that want to learn and grow with us in a fast paced, exciting and passion-driven industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible to set up, operate, assist, direct, and train others on one or more machines that automatically coils, forms, wraps, etc. metal wire while providing verbal and written instructions. The Technician will help to implement standards and ensure quality by following and/or instructing others on the use of sketches, blueprints, setup charts, comparator, calipers, tape measurer, and other measuring instruments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Read and understand product prints, set-up procedures, and processing parameters. Sets up or operates any machine or job using automatic coiler, including parts with complex parameters such as compression springs, extension springs, variable pitch, variable diameters, damper coil and multiple loads. Sets cams, turnbuckel and pitch tool to control the spring dimensions. Able to finish and or create tooling from blanks i.e. arbors, pitch tool and coiling points as needed. Select machine tooling such as coiling points, pitch tools, and feed-rolls to produce various types of spring products. Select and load spring wire into machines with forklift; all wire is verified with digital calipers and tape measurer. Produce trial parts from initial coiling setup to final operations to validate all processing steps prior to production runs. Verify product dimensions and performance with various types of inspection equipment and measurement tools. Maintain, adjust, and control machine during production to maintain high level of SPC quality per the print tolerances. Strive to optimize production speeds and quality. Recommend and review products with engineers, technicians, and coworkers for continuous improvement opportunities. Selects machine attachments, such as taper cams, gears, wire size block, coiling point, pitch tool and cutter tool according to a blueprint or setup instructions and installs them on the machine. Repair minor equipment issues. Record data relative to the quality of the springs/parts being produced. Install guards to conform to safety standards if necessary. Ensure Quality, Safety and Environmental System requirements are followed.
QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma; or two to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read/use Tape Measurer and Calipers. Must know standard and metric measuring, able to use hand tools, factory experience, basic mechanical knowledge. Basic computer skills are required. The position requires the operation of a hi-lo/forklift. The individual must have the ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license/certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and metrics. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one
  • or two-step instructions.
