Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Operator to support our hydraulic repair operations. The ideal candidate will have experience machining hydraulic components such as rods, pistons, glands, and housings. You'll be responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to fabricate new parts and refurbish existing ones with tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes. This role is critical to restoring hydraulic cylinders and components to OEM or better specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC lathes to machine hydraulic parts (e.g., cylinder rods, end caps, pistons, glands) from steel, stainless, or other materials Read and interpret hydraulic part drawings, repair specs, and work orders Machine both new parts and rework worn or damaged components to restore proper fit/function Use micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other measuring tools to ensure dimensional accuracy Make offset adjustments and minor edits to CNC programs when needed Load raw material (e.g., chrome bar, tubing) and perform roughing/finishing operations Maintain consistent surface finishes appropriate for hydraulic seals and bearing fits Work closely with hydraulic technicians and welders to support repair and rebuild projects Ensure machines are maintained and cleaned regularly; report mechanical issues promptly Adhere to safety protocols and use PPE when operating machinery and handling materials
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC lathes (e.g., Haas, Mazak, Okuma, etc.) Strong knowledge of machining tolerances, fits, and surface finishes for hydraulic components Experience with large-diameter and long-length turning workpieces a plus Proficient with inspection tools and comfortable working with close tolerances (+/- .001" or tighter) Comfortable working with steel, chrome-plated materials, and alloy metals Able to work independently and communicate effectively with shop team High school diploma or equivalent (technical/vocational training preferred) Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work Basic math skills, including decimals, fractions, and geometry Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods
Preferred Experience:
Experience with CNC conversational programming or editing G/M code Familiarity with SPC (Statistical Process Control) and Lean Manufacturing principles Forklift certification Experience with multiple-axis lathes or Swiss-style CNC machines Proficient with precision measuring instruments and machining tools
