Job Description

CNC Machine Setup/OperatorPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented CNC Machine Setup/Operator to set up, program, and operate CNC lathes and other CNC equipment to produce precision components to specification. The ideal candidate will be proficient in CNC lathe operation and machine setup, able to interpret blueprints and GD&T, and committed to producing high-quality parts while meeting production schedules and safety standards. Experience in aerospace manufacturing and knowledge of
AS9100/NADCAP
processes are a plus.

Key ResponsibilitiesSet up, align, and prepare CNC lathes and other CNC machines for production runs, including installing tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices.

Load programs, enter offsets and tool data, perform program edits and dry runs to verify correct operation before production.

Operate CNC machines (primarily CNC lathes) to produce parts within specified tolerances and cycle times.

Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and GD&T to ensure parts meet dimensional and finish requirements.

Perform in-process and final inspections using hand tools and precision measuring equipment; record inspection results and maintain traceability.

Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues such as chatter, tool wear, and dimensional variation; make adjustments to feeds, speeds, and tooling as required.

Maintain machine setup documentation, job travelers, and production logs; ensure accurate reporting of completed work and scrap.

Adhere to quality system requirements (AS9100) and participate in NADCAP-related processes when applicable; follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to support continuous improvement and manufacturability.

Perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs to maximize uptime and part quality.

QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; technical training or vocational coursework in machining preferred.

Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with CNC lathe operation and CNC machine setup in a production environment.

Demonstrated skills in CNC machine operation, including loading programs, setting offsets, and performing program edits.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and basic knowledge of GD&T; experience applying GD&T to inspection and machining is a plus.

Proven ability to perform precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, gauges and other inspection tools.

Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes and materials (aluminum) is desirable.

Working knowledge of quality systems such as AS9100 and experience with NADCAP processes is a strong plus.

Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail with a focus on quality and repeatability.

Good communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
