Job Description:

Primary Function:
Set up and operate 2 or more conventional drills or mills.
Tools & Equipment:
Radial and vertical drills, vertical and conventional milling machines, spline mill, various types and sizes of drills, horizontal, shaper, keyway broach, hone, milling cutters and holders, taps, countersinks, boring bars and tools, spacers and indexing heads, fixtures, mandrels, sleeves, calipers, protractor, drifts, hand-truck, hand tools, etc.
Materials:
Carbon and alloy steels, non-ferrous metals, polymers, castings, forgings and weldments, rough and semi-finished parts, etc.
Working Procedure:
Receives work instructions from supervisor. Selects cutters, spindle speeds, table feeds, fixtures and other holding devices on specials and short-run jobs; follows setup detail prescribed on standardized/repetitive work, but Operator may vary same within limits of standard procedures to compensate for material variations, rigidity of setup and cutting conditions. Mounts and secures cutting tools and holders; positions, aligns and clamps work-pieces, aligns and secures special attachments, dividing heads, indexing fixtures, etc. Adjusts table/head height on column and orients table or head to bring workpiece and cutter to reference point; sets table feed, cutter speed, cutting depth and travel stops; operates controls to make successive cuts or complete machining cycle. Performs angle drilling to close tolerances where jigs are not provided; does deep-hole drilling where holes must be on location and to size, may do operations such as counterboring or spot-facing where depth and finish of holes are critical. Taps holes, including blinds holes where depth stops or tapping devices are not used. Stamps/identifies & burrs parts, records production data, etc. as directed. Responsible for performance of duties and for good housekeeping in immediate work area. Cooperates with and receives assistance from other shop personnel in the performance of work functions.
