CNC Lathe Operator Job Description The CNC Lathe Operator sets up and operates CNC lathes to produce high-quality parts in a clean, organized machine shop environment. This role loads and feeds bar stock, monitors machine performance, performs basic inspections, and follows established procedures to ensure parts meet precise tolerances and quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient work area. Responsibilities Load and feed bar stock into CNC lathes in a safe and efficient manner. Operate CNC lathes and related CNC machines by following standard operating procedures. Set up machines and prepare tooling as needed to run production jobs according to specifications. Monitor machine performance during operation and make basic adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Ensure all produced parts meet required quality standards and tolerances using appropriate measuring tools. Perform basic measurements and visual inspections to verify part accuracy and identify defects. Read and interpret basic work instructions and blueprints to understand job requirements. Use calipers, tape measures, micrometers, and other hand tools to check dimensions and verify tolerances. Operate forklifts and jib cranes to move bar stock, materials, and components safely. Troubleshoot basic machining and machine operation issues and communicate more complex problems to appropriate personnel. Work with both CNC and manual lathes, mills, and other machine shop equipment as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards. Follow all safety guidelines, company policies, and machine shop procedures at all times. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve quality, safety, and efficiency. Essential Skills Previous experience operating CNC lathes preferred. Ability to read and understand basic work instructions. Ability to read and interpret blueprints at a basic level. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Capability to work to precise tolerances in a machining environment. Physical ability to lift and handle bar stock and related materials as needed. Reliable, punctual, and demonstrating a strong work ethic. Ability to operate forklifts and jib cranes safely. Proficiency in using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers for measurement and inspection. Ability to perform basic CNC machine setup and operation. Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes. Ability to follow safety procedures and standard operating procedures consistently. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in CNC machining within a machine shop environment. Familiarity with Haas CNC machines and controls. Basic understanding of G-code and CNC programming concepts. Experience with manual lathes and mills. Skill in using hand tools and inspection tools for quality checks. Blueprint reading skills for machining applications. Experience with troubleshooting machining or machine operation issues. General mechanical skills related to tooling, setup, and machine operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rock Hill, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
