CNC Machine Operator Job Description As a CNC Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating 3-Axis VMCs, loading parts, running programs, monitoring machining operations, and ensuring all parts meet specifications. This role involves supporting or performing basic setups, including loading tools, setting work offsets, and verifying first-piece quality. You will interpret tool paths, offsets, alarms, and program steps to maintain smooth production operations. The role also requires using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and document results, as well as performing basic cleaning, chip removal, coolant checks, and reporting maintenance issues while adhering to safety procedures. Responsibilities Operate 3-Axis VMCs and ensure parts meet specifications. Support or perform basic setups and verify first-piece quality. Interpret tool paths, offsets, alarms, and program steps. Communicate tooling needs to leads or programmers. Use calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions. Perform cleaning, chip removal, and coolant checks. Report maintenance issues and follow safety procedures. Essential Skills 2 - 3 years of experience in CNC operations in a high-speed manufacturing environment or job shop. Strong knowledge of production machinery, CNC brake press, and laser setup and changeover. Ability to interpret blueprints and use calipers and hand tools. High school diploma or GED required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Schooling or certifications in machining or equivalent experience preferred. Familiarity with common cutting tools and wear. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is for the third shift, Monday through Friday, from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am, with potential overtime on weekends. Average hours worked are 50-55, with efforts to reduce this through additional hires. The facility is temperature-controlled, clean, and well-organized. Uniforms are available, but employees may wear their own work clothes, including jeans or work pants, short-sleeved shirts, and steel-toe boots. Cut-resistant gloves are required for some tasks. Hearing and eye protection are mandatory as the environment can be loud in certain areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
