JOB SUMMARY
Must be able to set up and operate CNC machinery. In most cases, the CNC Operator/Toolmaker will be provided a setup document for the part being machined. The document will contain all necessary information for setup (e.g. tool lengths/stickout, tool holder, work-offset, part orientation). CNC Operator/Toolmaker must be capable of using Fanuc and/or Okuma controllers for modifying input information (e.g. length/diameter offsets, establishing work-offset). ViAM's CNC department also functions as support for the Injection Mold department. At times, it will be required to provide support for production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Set-up and operate CNC equipment as required in a safe and productive manner. Able to upload and navigate CNC programs into the machine controllers from a memory stick. Calculate fixture (work) offsets and tool length offsets during initial machine setup. Read and understand setup sheets and install fixtures per setup documentation. Work with cutting tool nomenclature as called out on setup instructions. Inspect and measure machined work. Adjust machine to maintain parts within print specifications. Perform some assembly and inspect for fit/function. Inspect parts for proper fit, and re-machine if necessary. "Build up" and install cutting tools. Identify when tools need to be changed and perform changes. Monitor cutting fluids and lube oil levels to perform operator PM requirements. Work Overtime as required. Perform daily record keeping tasks as directed. Ability to plan and associate CNC programs together to maximize run time/efficiency. Reports to CNC Manager.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in design & process reviews to prevent or resolve production issues. Supports QA by making adjustments, inspection, and re-machining parts if necessary. Must be able to work independently given the tools, setup instructions, and CNC programs. Perform simple CNC program edits (tool pocket identification, speed or feed adjustment). Performs other duties when required or requested.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Vocational or Technical school training in Machining or a minimum of five (5) years equivalent CNC work experience, preferably with CNC milling. Experience with variable gaging required (Micrometers, depth Mics, bore gages, etc.) Training in print reading or equivalent work experience required. Training in cutting tool use and terminology or sufficient work experience required. Familiarity with machining various materials, especially Aluminum. Proficient in basic computer skills required. Demonstrated written and communication skills required. Good interpersonal skills, ability to work within a team, ability to handle multiple tasks. Experience or training in G and M code CNC programming preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Work may involve standing, bending and lifting for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 40 pounds overhead.
