The role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings, creating CNC programs, selecting tools, and optimizing production processes to meet quality standards and production timelines. This position plays a critical role in manufacturing operations by ensuring precision and efficiency in CNC machining.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Creation:
Develop and write CNC programs using CAD/CAM software based on engineering drawings and specifications. Select appropriate tools, cutting paths, and speeds for materials and parts to be machined.
Machine Setup & Operation:
Set up and configure CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and routers, for production runs. Perform test runs and ensure the machines are properly calibrated and producing accurate parts.
Troubleshooting & Optimization:
Diagnose and troubleshoot CNC programming and machining issues, adjusting programs as needed. Optimize machine programs to improve production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize tool wear.
Quality Control:
Ensure all machined parts meet quality specifications and tolerances. Work with the quality control team to perform inspections and verify part accuracy.
Maintenance & Documentation:
Maintain records of programs, tools, and production processes. Assist in routine maintenance of CNC machines to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations.
Collaboration:
Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production staff to ensure efficient workflow and address any production challenges. Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements and tooling upgrades.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or vocational training in CNC machining or a related field preferred. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., MasterCAM, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and routers. Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Other Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment:
This position primarily operates in a machine shop environment with exposure to machinery noise, oils, and debris. Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.
