  CNC Operator - Tool Making Department
• Job Description
• This role supports the tool making department by operating CNC and manual machines, assisting machinists with tool production, and performing tool maintenance and calibration. You will work hands-on with tooling, grinding, and machining processes to ensure tools are accurate, reliable, and ready for use in production.
• Responsibilities
• + Operate CNC machines as well as manual mills and lathes to support tool making activities.

+ Work directly with machinists in the tool making department to produce, adjust, and refine tools. + Perform tool maintenance, including inspection, cleaning, and minor repairs to keep tools in optimal condition. + Carry out manual surface grinding operations to achieve precise dimensions and finishes on tooling components. + Assist with tool calibration to ensure tools meet required specifications and tolerances. + Use mechanical skills and hand and power tools to assemble, modify, and maintain tooling. + Follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications to complete machining and grinding tasks accurately. + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area within the shop environment. + Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining or tooling issues and recommend improvements.

• Essential Skills
• + Experience operating CNC equipment in a shop or manufacturing environment.

+ Hands-on experience with manual mills and lathes. + Ability to perform manual surface grinding on tooling components. + Practical tool maintenance experience, including inspection and basic repair. + Strong mechanical skills with hand tools and power tools. + Ability to work closely with machinists and follow detailed instructions and specifications. + Basic understanding of tool calibration and dimensional accuracy. + Ability to work safely and efficiently in a shop environment.

• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• + Experience as a tool maker or in a tool room environment. + Experience as a mechanical or electrical apprentice or similar technical apprenticeship. + Familiarity with manual tooling practices and precision measurement tools. + Interest in developing further skills in machining, grinding, and tool making.

• Work Environment
• This position is based in a shop environment on a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. You will work around CNC machines, manual mills and lathes, surface grinders, and a variety of hand and power tools. The setting is industrial and hands-on, with a focus on safety, organization, and efficient workflow.
• Job Type & Location
• This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
• Pay and Benefits
• The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
