This position produces stainless-steel and aluminum components in accordance with customer prints and router specifications. The machinist ensures parts meet quality standards while maintaining safe, efficient, and organized work practices within the machine department. Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Setup Set up and operate the Haas EC-1600 horizontal machining center. Interpret blueprints, routings, and G-code programs to verify machining accuracy. Load and secure fixtures, vises, and workpieces; install and measure tools. Perform offsets, tool changes, and minor program edits as needed. Monitor tool wear, adjust feeds and speeds, and maintain dimensional accuracy. Complete first-piece inspection and verify all parts meet print and tolerance requirements. Maintain clean work area and ensure coolant, chip, and lubrication systems are functioning properly. Quality & Inspection Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other precision measuring tools for in-process and final inspections. Follow and document all inspection requirements noted on routers or traveler sheets. Notify Supervisor and Quality personnel of nonconforming parts or process issues. Support Bayside's quality control standards and continuous improvement initiatives. Maintenance & Safety Adhere to all Bayside safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures. Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately to supervision. Teamwork & Continuous Improvement Work closely with programmers, supervisors, and fellow machinists to improve setups and part flow. Suggest improvements to tooling, fixtures, or processes that reduce cycle time or improve quality. Assist other team members with machine setups and workflow when needed. Participate in department 5S and housekeeping efforts. Qualifications 2+ years of CNC machining experience (horizontal machining preferred). Proficient in Haas control operation , G-code, and basic program editing. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and setup sheets . Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Experience machining stainless steel and aluminum preferred. Reliable attendance and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Preferred Skills Experience with large-part fixturing and probing systems. Familiarity with Mastercam or other CAM software. Knowledge of horizontal machining center maintenance and tool presetting. Performance Expectations Consistently meets production and quality standards. Maintains clean, safe, and efficient workstation. Accurately completes inspection records and job travelers. Supports teamwork and communication across departments.
