Job Title:
CNC Lathe Operator Job Description This temporary CNC Lathe Operator role focuses on operating CNC lathes to produce precision components for a variety of industries while performing accurate in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. The position supports a specific project for a defined duration and requires strong attention to detail, quality, and safe material handling throughout each shift. Responsibilities Operate CNC lathes to machine parts according to blueprints and job specifications. Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify part dimensions and quality. Read and interpret blueprints to ensure correct setup, tooling, and machining processes. Monitor machine performance during production and make basic adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Handle and lift materials and finished parts, including repeatedly lifting up to 50 pounds throughout a 10-hour shift. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Document inspection results and communicate any nonconformances or quality issues to the appropriate personnel. Collaborate with other team members in the machine shop to meet production goals and project timelines. Support machining operations for a variety of products serving medical device, surgical instrument, diesel, automotive, and agricultural applications. Assist with basic setup or program edits when capable, helping to reduce downtime and improve throughput. Essential Skills 3+ years of CNC lathe operating experience in a machining or machine shop environment. 3+ years of blueprint reading experience to interpret dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements. 3+ years of inspection experience using micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Proficiency with CNC machining practices, including turning operations. Ability to perform accurate measurements and quality checks using micrometers and calipers. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds over the course of a 10-hour shift. Capability to work a consistent 4-day, 10-hour shift schedule without overtime. Additional Skills & Qualifications Any CNC setup experience is a plus. Any CNC program editing skills are a plus. Experience working in a job shop environment is beneficial. Familiarity with milling operations and tooling is helpful. Experience working with machine brands such as Mor Seiki is an advantage. Exposure to CAD/CAM or design tools such as SolidWorks is a plus. Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts is beneficial. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a job shop environment with approximately 50 employees, producing parts for multiple industries including medical device, surgical instruments, diesel, automotive, and agricultural sectors. The role is on second shift, working four 10-hour shifts per week from late afternoon into the early morning hours, Monday through Thursday, with no overtime. You will work primarily on CNC turning and milling equipment, with most machines used for these operations being Mor Seiki and similar modern CNC platforms. The environment is a hands-on, production-focused machine shop where you will be on your feet for most of the shift, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds and working around active machining centers, tooling, and inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kenosha, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
