Job Title:
CNC Vertical Milling Machine Operator Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC vertical milling equipment to produce high-precision components for the electrical wire processing industry. You will work with advanced machining centers, perform simple programming at the machine control, maintain tight tolerances, and ensure consistent quality through careful measurement, documentation, and adherence to safe work practices. Responsibilities Set up and operate an Okuma Vertical Machining Center to produce precision parts. Set up and operate Lagun mills equipped with Acu-Rite PWR control. Perform simple programming and editing directly at the machine control. Manage and maintain close manufacturing tolerances in the range of .0001" to .0005". Troubleshoot machine issues and take corrective action to minimize downtime. Select and use appropriate tooling based on job requirements and material characteristics. Apply proper feeds and speeds to optimize machining performance and tool life. Ensure machines are properly maintained by performing routine checks and basic preventive maintenance. Follow safe work practices and housekeeping standards within the department. Report work performed accurately and maintain all required production and quality documentation. Work independently while taking responsibility for the quality and output of assigned work. Read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T, to set up and verify parts correctly. Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and verify compliance with specifications. Essential Skills Proven experience in CNC vertical milling machining applications. Ability to independently set up and operate CNC vertical milling machines. Strong understanding of G and M codes and their application at the machine control. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T symbols and requirements. Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills. Ability to take responsibility for personal quality and production output. Stable work history demonstrating reliability and consistency. Ability to troubleshoot machining and equipment issues effectively. Knowledge of proper feeds, speeds, and tooling selection for various materials. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating Okuma Vertical Machining Centers. Experience operating Lagun mills with Acu-Rite PWR control. Experience performing simple programming directly at the machine control. Familiarity with close tolerance machining down to .0001"-.0005". The environment emphasizes close-tolerance machining, technical problem-solving, and collaboration with an engineering support staff that provides expertise in stripping blade design, wire applications, materials, and coatings. The facility maintains established safety and housekeeping standards, and you are expected to follow all procedures to keep the work area organized, safe, and efficient. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sussex, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
