Upton Sheet Metal Inc. is a precision sheet metal fabrication company based in Anaheim, CA, serving customers across aerospace, defense, industrial, and commercial sectors. Our capabilities include laser cutting, press brake forming, welding, CNC machining, grinding, hardware installation, and full project coordination. We are investing in stronger department leadership and tighter internal processes. Position Summary We are hiring a CNC Machinist Supervisor & Lead Programmer to take ownership of our CNC machining department end-to-end. This is a senior, hands-on, multi-role position — you will program, supervise, set up, quote, and mentor. You will be the technical and operational lead for everything that runs through the CNC department. Key Responsibilities Lead the day-to-day operation of the CNC machining department: assign work, sequence priorities, own on-time delivery. Program parts in-house using CAMWorks (SolidWorks-integrated). Validate programs, tooling, and fixturing before runs. Perform CNC setups (mill and/or lathe) when needed. First-article inspection and process validation. Provide accurate machining time estimates for incoming quotes. Identify DFM (Design for Manufacturability) issues early. Train and develop machinists. Build a documented knowledge base inside the department. Enforce quality standards in coordination with the Inspector. Own corrective actions for CNC rework or scrap. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized CNC area — enforce PPE, machine safety, tool and fixture storage, and shop cleanliness as a daily standard. Required Qualifications 7 - 10 years of CNC machining experience (mill, lathe, or both). 3+ years in a lead, supervisory, or senior programmer role. Strong CAM programming experience — our in-house standard is CAMWorks (SolidWorks-integrated). Candidates strongest in Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, or similar are welcome to apply; if you prefer to continue working in your current CAM software during onboarding, you may bring your own laptop and license. SolidWorks CAD fluency — reading, navigating, and interpreting models. Proficient with CNC controls (Fanuc, Haas, or equivalent) — setup, edits, offsets. Strong GD&T and blueprint reading; tight-tolerance work (.001" and better). Proven ability to lead, coach, and hold a team accountable. Estimating/quoting experience (programming time, cycle time, setup time). Strong communication skills. Reliable attendance — this is a leadership role, and the team takes its cue from you. Preferred Qualifications Experience in mixed-process manufacturing environments (CNC alongside fabrication operations such as laser cutting, press brake, or welding). Most of our CNC work is on bars, tubes, and blocks, with occasional secondary machining on sheet metal parts. Experience with ERP or shop floor management systems (JobBOSS, ProShop, Global Shop, NetSuite, Fishbowl, or similar) — we are planning to implement a system in the near term, and the right candidate will help shape the rollout in the CNC department. Bilingual English / Spanish (significant plus — most of the floor is bilingual, but not required). Background in process improvement — measuring cycle times, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing changes to reduce waste, defects, or downtime in a CNC department. Experience writing setup sheets, work instructions, or new-hire training guides — we want to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge in the CNC department. What We Offer Competitive hourly pay ($45 - $55 / hr DOE). Medical, dental, and vision insurance. Paid time off and holidays. Stable, established company with a growing CNC department. Direct access to ownership and General Manager — your work is visible and valued. Real opportunity to build the CNC department's structure, standards, and team from a leadership seat.
