Job Description

Job Overview Programs set up and operates CNC, NC, conventional, manual, and special purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts as required. Assists and supports co-workers and performs fabrication operations to mass-produce products such as galleys, closets, VCC's, E-Bays, etc. for commercial transportation; assists and supports co-workers engaged in fabrication of parts. Essential Responsibilities Operate CNC, NC, conventional, manual, and/or special purpose machines (chop saws, lathes, punch presses, brakes) to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts to specifications determined by engineering drawings and work order as required. Program CNC, NC machines (Mills, Punch Press) as required. Lay out hole locations, drill and tap holes on parts for fabrication, remove high spots and smoothes surfaces. Verifies alignment and tolerances of parts. Studies engineering drawings, manuals, or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished material, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or stock as guides for subsequent machining. Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media, as required. Assists in keeping production parts organized and labeled in the work area. Identifies completed parts with a part number and revision level. Lifts, positions, and removes production units from machines or assembly areas. Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or hand truck. Prepares damaged or scrap material for quality assurance disposition Clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Pick up scrap from work areas. Prepare and organize tools and parts for use in the fabrication area. Verifies unit dimensions before releasing them from the department. Ensures the cutting and fitting, of parts to shape per Engineering Drawing. Promotes cooperation and positive communication with co-workers. Assists & supports co-workers to complete the preparation of fabricated parts for inspection. Supports safety regulations in order to comply with OSHA and Airworthy requirements. Ensures that production units from their department are inspected, and discrepancies corrected prior to sending the units out of the department. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum 1 year machinist experience using machines related or similar to Airworthy. Certificate in machining from accredited college or technical school. Strong training experience with setup and operation of CNC, NC vertical, and horizontal mills, hand mills, and lathes, and other job related tools. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Exceptional mathematical skills and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must know how to measure angles. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define and solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Preferred Qualifications Must meet or exceed current training requirements. Ensure safety regulations and requirements at the highest level. Work within the time constraints dictated by Airworthy's agreement to customer requests. Able to self-inspect personal work and correct discrepancies in a timely manner. Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in interpreting Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Follow up and complete work on inspection non-conformities in a timely manner. Willing to assist in other areas of the company, as directed by the manager.
