Non-Exempt Job Summary :

The CNC Programmer/Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery to produce components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role will program parts from STEP files using Mastercam, develop and document machine setup procedures, and operate CNC equipment to produce accurate, quality components for HEI manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, solving machining and setup challenges, and taking ownership of the process from programming through completed part.

Key Responsibilities:

Program CNC parts from STEP files using Mastercam. Develop efficient machining programs and make program adjustments as needed. Interpret engineering drawings, prints, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Design, develop, and document machine setup procedures, including tooling, work holding, and machining sequence. Set up and operate CNC machines to produce parts according to specifications. Select appropriate tooling and establish machine offsets and setup parameters. Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to maintain quality and production requirements. Measure and verify completed and in-process parts using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and other gauges. Identify and troubleshoot programming, setup, tooling, and machining issues. Maintain accurate setup documentation and CNC programs for repeatable production. Communicate potential design, tooling, material, or manufacturing issues to appropriate personnel. Follow established processes and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and repeatability. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform other duties as assigned to support production.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED preferred. Previous CNC machining and programming experience. Proficiency with Mastercam. Ability to program parts from STEP files. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prints. Ability to set up and operate CNC machinery. Proficiency using precision measuring equipment, including calipers and micrometers. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and quality. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to lift materials and perform physical tasks throughout the shift. Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

Experience programming CNC mills and/or lathes. Experience developing and documenting setup procedures. Experience with CNC tooling, work holding, and fixture setup. Experience troubleshooting CNC programs and machining processes. Familiarity with G-code and making program edits at the machine. Experience working in a manufacturing or job-shop environment. Experience working from 3D CAD models and engineering drawings. Experience supporting defense or other regulated manufacturing programs.
