In person About Mar-Vel Tool Mar-Vel Tool is an established precision machining and tooling company located in Dayton, Ohio. We specialize in large-component machining, custom tooling, CNC machining, and repair work. We are seeking an experienced Senior CNC Boring Mill Machinist / Programmer to join our team. This position is ideal for a skilled machinist who can independently program, set up, and operate large horizontal boring mills. Our work primarily consists of custom, one-off components, tooling, and repair projects rather than repetitive production machining. The successful candidate will have strong machining knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to take a job from engineering drawings through programming, setup, machining, and final inspection. Key Responsibilities Independently program, set up, and operate CNC horizontal boring mills. Create, edit, and optimize CNC machining programs using Autodesk Fusion 360 or comparable CAM software. Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, machining specifications, and GD&T requirements. Develop machining strategies, determine machining sequences, and select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, and feeds. Set up and securely fixture large, heavy, or irregularly shaped workpieces. Perform precision boring, milling, drilling, and related machining operations. Troubleshoot CNC programs, setups, tooling issues, and machining problems. Verify finished dimensions using micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment. Maintain tight tolerances and ensure finished components meet drawing specifications. Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to position and move large workpieces. Perform routine machine maintenance and identify equipment requiring repair. Work closely with shop management to establish priorities and meet customer deadlines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment. Assist with other machining operations when required. Equipment Our boring mill department includes the following machines: Cincinnati Gilbert 4-Axis CNC Horizontal Boring Mill DeVlieg 4-Axis CNC Horizontal Boring Mill Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience, preferably with horizontal boring mills. Proven ability to independently program, set up, and operate CNC machining equipment. Strong CNC programming experience using Fusion 360, Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar CAM software. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T. Strong knowledge of machining practices, tooling selection, speeds, feeds, and workholding methods. Experience machining large tooling components, custom parts, and repair work. Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, indicators, and bore gauges. Ability to work to tight tolerances and maintain high-quality standards. Experience safely operating overhead cranes and forklifts. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to work overtime as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience operating large 4-axis CNC horizontal boring mills. Experience with Cincinnati Gilbert, DeVlieg, or Lucas boring mills. Experience programming with Autodesk Fusion 360. Experience machining large, complex, one-off components and tooling. Experience with complex setups, rotary tables, angle plates, and large workholding fixtures.

Note:

Fusion 360 experience is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants with experience using other CAM software will be considered, provided they are willing to learn Fusion 360.

Work Schedule Regular Working Hours Monday-Friday:

7:00 AM-3:30 PM Overtime Hours (as required)

Monday-Friday:

Up to 5:30

PM Saturday:

7:00 AM-12:00 PM Overtime is expected when workload and customer commitments require additional hours. Compensation and Benefits $30.00-$40.00 per hour , depending on experience and qualifications.
