Job Description

CNC Programmer & Fixture Toolmaker Department:
Manufacturing /
Tooling & Engineering Reports To:
Toolroom Supervisor /
Plant Manager Work Location:
In Person Build the Tooling That Makes Big Things Possible Are you someone who enjoys turning an idea, drawing, or 3D model into a real piece of precision tooling? We're looking for an experienced CNC Programmer & Fixture Toolmaker to join our manufacturing and tooling team. In this hands-on role, you'll design, program, build, and improve the heavy-duty fixtures and specialized tooling that keep the production floor running efficiently. You'll work with large castings, weldments, structural components, and high-strength alloys used in agricultural, construction, and heavy industrial equipment. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving challenging machining and workholding problems and takes pride in building tooling that is accurate, durable, and production-ready. What You'll Do Program & Machine Create, optimize, and verify CNC programs using Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, or similar CAM software . Program 3-axis and multi-axis machining operations for fixture blocks, baseplates, tombstones, and custom tooling. Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and conventional toolroom equipment. Machine components from detailed blueprints, CAD models, and engineering drawings. Build Heavy-Duty Fixtures Build precision workholding fixtures designed to safely handle the high cutting forces involved in machining large industrial components. Work with manufacturing engineers to develop hydraulic, pneumatic, and manual clamping solutions . Assemble modular fixtures and tooling, including alignment, pinning, bushing installation, and precision fitting. Maintain the accuracy and reliability of tooling throughout its production life. Solve Problems & Improve Production Troubleshoot existing fixtures to reduce vibration, minimize part distortion, and improve machining performance. Modify and repair tooling when production requirements change. Help identify opportunities to improve cycle times, tool life, repeatability, and overall manufacturing efficiency . Use your machining and programming expertise to find practical solutions to challenging production problems. Inspect & Verify Use precision inspection equipment such as micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and other measuring tools to verify tooling accuracy. Apply GD&T principles to ensure fixtures meet engineering and production requirements. Maintain tight tolerances, including ±0.0005" where required . What We're Looking For We're looking for a skilled, hands-on problem solver who is comfortable moving between CAD/CAM programming, CNC machining, manual machining, and precision fixture assembly . Ideally, you bring: 5+ years of toolroom/fixture-building experience . Strong experience with CAM or Mazatrol. Solid understanding of G-code and M-code . Strong knowledge of GD&T, cutting tools, feeds and speeds , and machining strategies. Experience machining structural steels, heavy castings, and high alloy steels. Advanced precision measurement and inspection skills. Experience reading blueprints, engineering drawings, and 3D CAD models. The ability to work independently while collaborating closely with engineers, machinists, and production teams. The ability to safely work with large tooling components and operate overhead cranes or hoists. Why This Role Matters This isn't a job where you simply make parts to a print. You'll be helping determine how challenging, high-value components are successfully machined on the production floor. Your fixtures and tooling will directly influence quality, safety, efficiency, and productivity. You'll have the opportunity to use both your technical knowledge and hands-on machining skills every day—and see the results of your work in real production. If you enjoy difficult machining challenges, precision work, and building solutions that make manufacturing better, we'd like to hear from you.
