Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Shipyard Painter Blaster to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing, blasting, and painting shipyard structures, vessels, and equipment to ensure optimal durability and appearance. Your expertise will help maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in a fast-paced maritime environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale projects that require precision, technical knowledge, and a proactive approach. Responsibilities Prepare surfaces for painting through blasting techniques such as abrasive or media blasting to remove rust, old paint, and contaminants. Apply coatings using various methods including brush painting, roller painting, spray painting with conventional or airless sprayers to achieve smooth, durable finishes. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to determine proper surface preparation and coating specifications. Maintain safety protocols by utilizing respiratory protection, adhering to safety regulations, and following proper handling procedures for hazardous materials. Use hand tools and power tools for surface preparation tasks such as sanding, scraping, or minor repairs before painting. Conduct visual color comparisons and inspect finished surfaces to ensure color accuracy and coating quality meet project standards. Assist in renovation and restoration projects by performing tasks like plastering, caulking, trim carpentry, masonry work, or fixture installation as needed. Requirements Proven experience in construction or industrial painting environments with a focus on shipyard or marine applications. Skilled in surface preparation techniques including construction site surface prep and blast cleaning methods. Familiarity with construction estimating processes related to painting projects is a plus. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints accurately. Experience with various coating systems such as industrial paints, marine coatings, or specialty primers. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, paint sprayers (including airless), brushes, rollers, and scaffolding/ladders safely. Knowledge of safety regulations specific to construction sites including respiratory protection and hazard communication standards. Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to coatings application. Strong attention to detail with excellent visual color comparison skills for consistent finishes. Construction site experience with familiarity in blueprint reading and renovation procedures is highly desirable.
