Applies paint and other finishes by brush, roller, or spray unit to the exterior and interior surfaces of dwelling units and other structures. Characteristics of the

Class:

This class is distinguished from painter classes by its responsibility for performing journeyman spray painting work as a full time assignment. Prepares wood, plaster, stucco, and cement surfaces for spray painting by sanding, spackling, patching, and sealing cracks and holes with putty or plaster, scraping and washing. Mixes paint and matches colors where exact matching is required. Applies paint to exterior and interior plaster, wood, stucco, and cement building surfaces. Sets up necessary equipment such as ladders, drop cloths, and scaffolding. Cleans painting tools and equipment. May plan and paint miscellaneous signs. May operate a paint stripping machine in painting parking and other traffic markings on curbs and streets. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Four (4) years of experience in the painting trade including completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent evidence of journeyman status.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid California Class "C" Driver's License.

Vision:

Keen color perception.

EXAMINATION
