The Industrial Painter Assistant works directly with our Industrial Painter to prep, sandblast, move, and paint components while learning the equipment and process on the job. No industrial painting experience is required—just a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in quality work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Prepare steel products and components for painting by cleaning and sanding as needed. Stage and move parts and components using approved material-handling equipment, including forklifts, skid loaders, telehandlers, and overhead hoists. Assist with sandblasting to remove rust, scale, paint, and other debris from surfaces. Assist the Industrial Painter with preparing and mixing coatings and setting up or adjusting spray equipment according to established instructions. Assist with spray application and operate painting equipment independently after completing required training. Inspect surfaces before and after painting and assist with quality checks, including viscosity and coating-thickness measurements, as trained. Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of painting and sandblasting equipment and report any repair needs. Record work-order information and material usage, monitor supply levels, and report when inventory is low. Perform other production and paint department duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills Previous manufacturing, industrial painting, sandblasting, or surface-preparation experience is preferred but not required; willingness to learn is essential. Ability to communicate clearly, follow verbal and written instructions, and work cooperatively with others. Basic ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and production equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Basic time-management skills and the ability to complete assigned work on schedule. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance or lifting equipment used for heavier or awkward items. Maintain the manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination necessary to prepare, handle, and inspect parts. Work around paint, solvents, dust, fumes, noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Ability to safely climb up and down ladders as needed. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
