Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Painter/Coating Technician to prepare, apply, and inspect protective coatings on metal and other industrial surfaces. This role works with high-performance coatings such as epoxy and urethane while ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards in an industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, grinding, or abrasive blasting Apply coatings (including epoxy and urethane systems ) using spray equipment, brushes, or rollers Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and ratios Operate spray guns, pressure pots, and other coating equipment Work on structures at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and elevated lifts (scissor lifts, boom lifts) Inspect surfaces before and after coating to ensure proper adhesion and finish quality Perform touch-ups, repairs, and rework as needed Maintain and clean tools and equipment Read and follow work orders, blueprints, and coating specifications Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) for proper coating application Follow all safety procedures and report hazards or defects
Union Requirement:
This position is union-based and requires membership (or ability to join) in the applicable Union All work will be performed in accordance with union rules, regulations, and job site agreements
Safety & PPE Requirements:
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, including: Hard hat Safety glasses Gloves Steel-toe boots Respirators or supplied air systems when required Protective suits or coveralls Must be able to safely work in industrial environments with exposure to fumes, dust, and noise Follow all OSHA and company safety standards
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred 1-3+ years of industrial painting/coating experience (or willingness to train) Experience with epoxy, urethane, or similar industrial coatings preferred Familiarity with surface preparation methods such as sandblasting is a plus Experience working at heights or with elevated work platforms preferred Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to operate spray equipment and coating tools Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship Basic math skills for mixing ratios Team player with good communication skills
Work Environment:
Industrial shop or field setting Regular exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust, and loud noise Work may be performed at heights, in confined spaces, or outdoors in varying weather conditions Use of elevated lifts and fall protection equipment required
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs Comfortable working at heights Ability to wear respirators and PPE for extended periods Manual dexterity for detailed coating application
