Job Description

Position Overview This position paints various parts, in a stand-alone booth or on a moving paint line, using a variety of primers and top coats, primarily using a paint gun. Other activities of the position include: preparing and masking parts prior to painting; maintenance of paint line, booth and spray equipment; transport of parts using a forklift (if forklift qualified); and pre- and post-painting part inspections. Job Specific Requirements Capable of performing all functions in the Paint Department, including sanding, masking, part preparation, and packaging for shipment. Capable of reading blueprints and understanding them and other technical documents, such as customer specification document, MSDS's, TDS's, etc. Ability to assemble, use, disassemble and clean: paint guns, hoses, mixing machines, recyclers, filters, and other miscellaneous paint equipment. Understanding of proper paint receiving, storage, rotation, mixing, application, and disposal in accordance with environmental regulations and quality procedures. Ability to inspect parts pre- and post-application for compliance with customer quality requirements. Ability to use and recalibrate paint testing equipment such as Zahn cups and mil thickness gauges. Knowledge of paint chemistry, it's affect on finished product quality, and the effects of environmental conditions on same. Ability to operate a forklift, after proper training and testing. General Requirements Regular daily attendance and timely clocking in and out, including scheduled breaks. Willingness to take direction from area supervision, and to follow that direction. Working with other employees as part of a team Continually demonstrate a productive and non-disruptive work ethic. Follow all company safety rules as laid out in company policies and procedures, including wearing of required safety equipment as applicable: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, etc. Maintain company equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Work in such a way as to create no or limited scrap or rework, and work to continually improve quality level. Awareness of the relevance and importance of job activities and how they contribute to the achievement of the quality objectives. Possess basic mathematics skills. Basic data entry skills sufficient to use company data processing systems for job costing, tracking, and reporting purposes. Basic record keeping skills. Continually strive to improve in all aspects of job requirements. Physical Requirements Able to work in crouched position at times, and stand on concrete floors for long periods as needed to do various job tasks. Able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. at times as required by job. Employee may also be required to pass certain health requirements for respirator use to be considered for or remain in paint area. Good vision is required for reading documents, and checking parts for flaws in materials or paint. Position requires reaching approximately 3 feet while handling equipment weighing approximately 10 pounds.
