Job Description

Seeking a Locomotive Painter with experience preparing, blasting, and applying coatings to locomotives, railcars, and related components. This role involves surface preparation, masking, mixing coatings, and applying finishes using industrial spray systems to meet customer and manufacturer specifications.
Pay:
$20 - $22/hour
Location:
Muncie, IN Shifts:
1st Shift Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm (OT required at this time) 3rd shift Sun-Thurs 7:30pm-6am (OT required at this time)
Weekend Shift:
Friday-Sunday, 6:00 AM-6:00 PM. Work 36 hours and, with good attendance, earn an additional $1 per hour worked. (OT required at this time)

5 Days of PTO 6 Paid Holidays Up to 50% of health insurance premiums paid by company Access to a retirement plan, financial fitness, and employee savings programs Key Responsibilities Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, grinding, masking, taping, and cleaning Perform sandblasting operations using various media (shells, glass, steel, silica) Power wash and clean locomotives, railcars, and components Apply primers, paints, and coatings using pressure spray systems Perform bodywork, including filling, glazing, and repairing surface defects Apply decals, stenciling, and touch-up finishes Mix and prepare coatings according to specifications Protect non-painted areas through masking and covering techniques Move units and components in and out of paint and blast booths Read and follow work orders, QWIs, and technical instructions Accurately document work performed and repairs completed Maintain a clean and organized work area Operate forklifts, cranes, winches, and manlifts safely Use pneumatic and electric hand tools Set up and maintain blast equipment (hoses, compressors, blast pots, etc.) Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment Operate overhead cranes Remove debris, water, and contaminants prior to blasting Maintain blast media levels and clean blast areas Ensure proper function of all blasting and painting equipment Adhere to production timelines and quality standards Follow all company safety policies and procedures Advanced Responsibilities Train and mentor team members Select and mix coatings for various applications Monitor inventory levels for paint, media, and supplies Troubleshoot coating or surface preparation issues
Skill Levels Level I:
0-1 year of experience (no technical education required)
Level II:
1-2 years of experience or technical certification
Level III:
2+ years of relevant experience Qualifications & Experience Proficiency with hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools Ability to read and follow technical instructions and work orders Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators and blast hoods Compliance with medical surveillance programs High school diploma or GED Experience painting railcars, locomotives, or heavy equipment Technical training in autobody, industrial painting, or related field Lift Up to 50 lbs.; push/pull up to 150 lbs. Frequent walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders, and overhead reaching
Environment:
