Full Job Description Title:
Industrial Painter, Prep-and Blast Dependent on qualifications, the expected pay range would be $18.00/hr - $23.00/hr for level 1 paint prep position. In the past we have had general labor do this function, but this time we would prefer someone that may have some paint prep experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with coworkers, customers and supervision. Maintain high standards of safety, teamwork, workmanship, quality, documentation, and housekeeping; comply with company work rules; be able to work with small hand tools to prepare welded metal parts for paint; general area cleanup; able to work with material handling equipment, able to use equipment (Jib Hoist, Crane, Forklift, Travel Car on Rail) to move or lift products and material of varied sizes and weights, sometime in excess of 1000 pounds; assist in expediting shop production and perform as directed by paint lead person and/or shop supervision. This job typically consists of using an overhead crane to set welded metal parts on work supports, using hammer and small chisel to remove weld spatter from the parts, going over the part to be sure all sharp edges are deburred, hand brush off to be sure all metal blast prep material is off of the part, masking off areas identified for no paint, hanging the part on the paint line, removing painted parts from line, taking care to not damage finish. Worker will also prepare final machine assemblies for final touch-up paint prior to equipment shipment. This would typically involve scuffing the paint surface, masking off areas/components that are to not be painted, masking off electrical cables, and wiping down product for paint.
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to rig chains and use 30,000 lb. overhead crane to manipulate large steel parts
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
  • Previous experience with operating industrial equipment is beneficial.
  • Prefer working knowledge of manual sand and grit blasting machines, materials processes and practices.
  • Prefer general knowledge of hand tools (chipping hammer and wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander)
  • Ability to work independently without daily supervision.
  • Ability to wear PPE including full blast helmet with forced air.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
  • Good knowledge of mechanics for operation and repair of sandblasting equipment
  • Effectively communicate and understand job instructions both verbally and written in the English language. Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to all levels of employees in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
