In this position, you will prepare, coat, and finish fabricated metal components while working closely with our Fabrication team to ensure finished products meet SMSI's quality standards. $17 - $30 hourlyDOE Responsibilities:
Prepare parts and surfaces for painting by cleaning, masking, sanding, and completing other necessary preparation Set up and prepare painting equipment and materials before beginning each job Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings to metal and fabricated components according to specifications Mix and prepare paints and coatings according to manufacturer and job requirements Monitor coating application to achieve the required coverage and dry film thickness Read and follow paint specifications, technical documents, safety guidelines, and material requirements Inspect finished surfaces for proper coverage, appearance, and overall quality Properly operate, clean, and maintain painting equipment and tools Work closely with fabricators and finishers to maintain production schedules and quality standards Identify appropriate materials, tools, and equipment needed for assigned work Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow all company safety procedures and requirements This position is safety-sensitive.Qualifications:
Previous industrial, commercial, or similar painting experience preferred; however, candidates with a strong willingness to learn may be considered Ability to read and understand technical documents, paint specifications, mixing instructions, and safety requirements Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work Ability to safely operate painting equipment and related tools Forklift experience preferred Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 75 pounds Ability to work independently and as part of a fabrication team OSHA 10 certification preferred About Company SMSI is dedicated to providing the highest quality mechanical services performed in an honest, dependable, and efficient manner.
