Job Description

Painters have the responsibility to perform both blasting and painting utilizing marine coating to specified contract requirements.

Understanding of blasting and painting specifications including but not limited to blast profiles, millage requirements, etc.

Perform blasting and painting applications as directed by supervision.

Testing will consist of the ability to hook up airlines to the manifold and spray horizontally, vertically, and side to side. - Able to sandblast and demonstrate how to utilize each part of the blast equipment. Basic Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of 3 or more years experience as a painter and blaster.
  
• Must be able to perform all blast requirements and functions utilizing all applications. - Identify and correct blast and paint deficiencies as required by the contract specifications in addition to painting.
• Must pass both a 1st Class Spray Painting Test and a 1st Class Blast Test, prior to being hired.
• Must be able to communicate in English.

• Candidate must pass an interview with the hiring manager and needs to communicate in perfect English. Please make sure your candidates for these positions can communicate and answer quickly and clearly in English. I've had some great candidates that were turned down in the interview that I believe could communicate well but still wasn't enough for HII

  Great! Also just talked to our 1st class guy that passed today. He said it was all just knowing the terminology, parts of blast and paint equipment, type of sand and identifying them(black beauty), No physical testing. Basic Qualifications

Hand held Wire Brush Basic questions for Combo Blaster/Painters (Hope this helps)

What type of work: Blast Yard, Chemical Plants, Power Plants, Refineries, Shipyards, Interior Tank Blasters and Painters are a plus. (Commercial or Residential Painters are probably not Blasters but may be good Brush and Roll or Spray Painters if the order opens) What size blast nozzle have you used: Usually a #8, but for some a #6 What size Blast Unit have you used: Usually a 6-ton, an 8-ton or a 600 lb. What type of Spray Unit have you used: Most common are 5-Gallon Conventional, 2-Gallon Conventional or an Airless Spray Pump. Not common is a Plural Component Pump on applications of 100% solids, although we were applying this at Ingalls coating the Up-Tanks. What type of coatings have you applied: Most common are Zinc (Water Base & Epoxy Rich), Epoxy, Urethane, Vinyl. (Not many have experience with 100% Solids using a Plural Component Pump) Acrylic & Latex is rarely used for Marine or Industrial use with the exception of living quarters. When blasting a tank, where do you begin: Most of the time you blast the floor 1st as it will fill with grit. Walls and ceiling can be blasted at any time after the floor and a few feet up the wall have been blasted and primed.
