SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Painter 1, 2, & 3 is responsible for applying high-quality coatings to vinyl window frames and components using manual painting equipment. This role ensures that all products meet quality standards per company and customer specifications. Safety, cleanliness, efficiency, and attention to detail are critical in this position. Progression through Levels 1 to 3 is based on skill proficiency, leadership, quality, and productivity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Embrace and demonstrate the qualities of the Minnkota Windows Game Changer definition. Assist in staging and preparing window components for painting. Clean, scrub, prep, and mask surfaces and tape areas as needed. Apply paint using a compressed air spray gun under supervision. Follow paint application techniques and safety guidelines. Conduct basic visual inspections for defects and quality. Maintain clean equipment and workspaces. Read and interpret order paperwork and production instructions. Monitor environmental conditions in paint area (e.g., humidity, temperature). Handle painting chemicals and materials safely. Perform touch-ups and minor rework as directed. Maintain a strong focus on safety in all tasks and work areas. Prompt and dependable attendance. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALITIES
Willingness to learn and apply painting techniques. Basic understanding of hand tools and spray equipment. Attention to detail and pride in workmanship. Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Possess motivation to produce quality work and contribute to team success.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required. Some prior painting or manufacturing experience preferred. Specific Requirements for Levels 2 and 3 Painter 2: In addition to Level 1 requirements: Independently operate spray equipment and apply coatings to meet finish specifications. Mix paints according to manufacturer and job-specific requirements. Monitor and adjust spray patterns for optimal coverage and finish quality. Touch up minor defects and ensure finished parts meet visual and durability standards. Perform routine maintenance on spray guns and related equipment. Follow proper storage and disposal procedures for paints and solvents. Collaborate with team members to meet daily production goals. 2+ years of industrial or manufacturing painting experience. Proficient in spray gun operation, paint mixing, and application techniques. Knowledge of surface preparation and curing requirements. Ability to read and follow work orders, technical specs, and production schedules. Solid understanding of workplace safety, PPE, and hazardous material handling. Painter 3: In addition to Level 2 requirements: Lead daily painting operations and mentor Level 1 and 2 painters. Oversee workflow to ensure efficiency and quality targets are met. Troubleshoot coating, equipment, and finish issues in collaboration with maintenance or quality teams. Recommend improvements in paint processes, application methods, or materials. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and proper use of PPE. Assist in implementing training programs for new hires or skill upgrades. 4+ years of industrial painting experience, including leadership or training responsibilities. Advanced knowledge of coating systems (e.g., liquid, powder, specialty finishes). Deep understanding of materials compatibility and finish performance. Proven leadership, communication, and quality control skills. Ability to coordinate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to optimize paint processes. #
