JOB SUMMARY
The Shop Detailer/Painter is responsible for cleaning and refurbishing all used equipment bought and sold that comes through the shop, body paintwork, providing a refreshed product to the ultimate customer. This role will do an initial inspection and cleaning of purchased equipment upon entry to the shop, and any additional full-body detailing required after completion of mechanical and paint work prior to delivery to the customer. They will prepare equipment for the paint application process by sanding, removal of oils, debris, or imperfections, and taping off equipment and/or components where paint should not be applied. They will keep proper maintenance of all company-provided assets, including both equipment and all work tools/product.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans and refurbishes used material handling equipment while conforming to company and/or manufacturer specifications and time allowances. Inspects vehicles for noticeable defects, such as dents, scratches, torn upholstery, and poor mechanical operation. Responsible for sanding, grinding, and painting used equipment, including forklifts and lift trucks, to be sent out for re-sale. Handle the cleaning and preparation of the equipment before starting the painting process. Washes all areas of the equipment, using appropriate cleaning agents, applicators, and cleaning devices. Follow manufacturer guidelines on maintaining all tools and equipment, including the maintenance of the paint bay. Understand how cleaners, primers, and paints react on certain surfaces. Ensure the finished results of the painting process meet company standards for Used Equipment. Applies revitalizers and preservation agents to vinyl surfaces. Cleans engine and engine compartment with steam-cleaning equipment and various cleaning agents. Applies special-purpose cleaners to remove foreign materials that normal cleaning procedures do not remove, utilizing experience and judgment and following product manufacturer's recommendations. Restores the appearance of engine area, operator cab, and painted surfaces (pre-painting or where painting is not required). Applies dressing on tires and tire wells. Take photos of vehicles to be used by sales reps and for posting in online inventory. Assist with warehouse maintenance, equipment organization, and light mechanical repairs as necessary. Leads by example in promoting a safe workplace. Follows NexTier Equipment's core safety values and ensures basic safety standards are adhered to including SDS, PPE, JSAs, hot work permits, and customer safety rules. Reports any safety violations or incidents to Operations Manager or another member of management immediately. Maintains professionalism on the job at all times. Is reliable and punctual in reporting for work as scheduled. Performs other duties of a similar nature as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Two or more years of experience with automotive or equipment detailing. Two or more years of experience with automotive or heavy equipment body paintwork.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work independently and to effectively prioritize demands and execute tasks. Keen attention to detail. Ability to assess situations and exercise sound judgment to maintain a safe work environment. Strong project management and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner.
