Painter - 1st Shift Job Description This 1st shift Painter position is responsible for preparing, finishing, and inspecting parts within a manufacturing environment using automotive and industrial painting techniques. The role involves operating paint booths and HVLP spray equipment, mixing and matching paints to specification, collaborating with purchasing to ensure material availability, and maintaining a clean, safe workspace while meeting production and quality standards. Responsibilities Prepare jobs for painting by sanding, taping off, and completing all necessary surface preparation steps. Operate and maintain painting tools and equipment, including HVLP spray guns, drills, and sanding equipment. Mix and match paints and colors accurately to meet job specifications and quality requirements. Coordinate with the Purchasing Department to order paints and related materials as needed for production. Pass and maintain eligibility for a respirator fit test prior to performing painting duties. Build components or assemblies as requested to support production needs. Interpret technical documents, including diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and written or verbal instructions to perform tasks correctly. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in general labor and production activities. Deburr parts and perform basic machine operation tasks as required. Identify any defective items, document issues, and handle them according to established procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy workspace to support safety and efficiency. Follow all company and industry safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols. Meet production goals while maintaining high quality standards in all painting and finishing work. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall manufacturing and production operations. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience as an automotive or industrial painter. At least 1 year of experience working in a paint booth and using an HVLP spray gun. Previous experience as a painter in a manufacturing facility. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately. Proficiency with general labor tasks in a production environment. Ability to use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively. Experience with deburring and basic machine operation. Ability to interpret technical documents such as diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and written or verbal instructions. Ability to pass a respirator fit test prior to painting work. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and follow established procedures. Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized workspace and following safety requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to operate various shop machinery. Ability to read shop blueprints. Comfort working with assembly tasks. Work Environment The role is based in a large shop and manufacturing environment. The facility is non-climate controlled, with dock doors open and fans used to help manage temperatures during warmer seasons. The position operates on 1st shift, typically from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Work involves regular use of painting equipment, power tools, hand tools, and shop machinery in an active production setting, with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and adherence to manufacturing processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Galion, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $21.00/hr.
