Position Spray Painters/Part Washers are responsible for washing, surface preparation and spray-painting of metal or fiberglass assembly components and production parts. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints and sketches. Hang parts on racks and carts for washing and painting. Perform necessary surface preparation and wash steel, aluminum and fiberglass parts for painting. Stirs or shakes coating liquid to mix solution to specified consistency, then pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose. Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray and pulls trigger and directs spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat. Inspects product before, during, after paint process to ensure specifications are met. Cleans spraying equipment with applicable solvent. Operate an overhead crane and forklift. Qualifications Ability to transport, move or guide parts, subassemblies, or assemblies before, during, or after paint process and to next operation which may include moving racks or carts by hand and the use of material handling equipment such as a forklift or overhead crane. Strong knowledge of paint mixing and spraying techniques. Ability to see subtle color differences. Ability to read and interpret blueprints Ability to work from established layout and follows sequence of operations. Can verify conformance of work piece to specifications Able to enter information into established computer system, production records, logs, time clock, and other forms. Experience with breathing masks and protective clothing. Ability to safely work with paint solvents and thinners. Strong attention to detail.
