Job Description

The purpose of the class is to maintain natural gas cathodic protection (CP) systems to control or prevent atmospheric and electrolytic corrosion. Maintenance of facilities include rectifiers, insulated valves, insulated service stops, anode beds and related facilities. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Perform cathodic protection field readings and short locations to assure compliance with public service rules and guidelines. Maintains log and records and prepares periodic and special reports as required by state and federal agencies. Attends staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical classes to improve technical skills. Assist with MOT job site set up. Assist gas maintenance crew. Work with service and main installation crew. Assist utility locators. Enter test results and prepare reports. Re read meters. Meter shop housekeeping not performed by janitorial staff. Meter shop material control. Commercial Meter Sizing Eagle Temperature and Pressure Monitor Installations Low Voltage Electronics High Pressure Meter/Valve Changeouts Reg Station Regulation and Lock Up Requires High School Diploma or GED and formal training, special courses, or self-education equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in gas service technology or a closely related field. Requires one year or more basic knowledge of corrosion control maintenance and repair. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL permit within 6 months of employment. Must obtain Class A CDL within one year of employment. Complete and maintain all required OQ certifications. Special skills or equipment certification may be required. This position requires participation in Gas Department random drug testing program . In addition, is subject to Federal Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations.
