Electrical Design Engineer - Automated Manufacturing Systems Job Description Join our innovative team in a key role focused on the electrical design, development, and startup of custom automated manufacturing systems. This position is pivotal in delivering advanced solutions such as robotic welding cells, tooling, and integrated automation equipment used by manufacturers worldwide. Responsibilities + Take ownership of control system tasks to ensure successful project execution, on time and within budget. + Design, debug, and validate safe, reliable PLC and HMI control programs that meet customer and company standards. + Collaborate closely with robotic programmers, HMI developers, and mechanical teams to ensure full system functionality. + Debug electrical and mechanical systems during machine build, startup, and commissioning. + Ensure equipment meets internal run-off requirements, safety inspections, and quality standards prior to shipment. + Maintain high equipment quality and support continuous improvement initiatives. + Communicate clearly with project managers and supervisors regarding technical issues, risks, and solutions. + Support on-site startup activities and customer acceptance as required. + Travel as needed to support project execution, with up to 50% travel possible (25%-30% is typical). Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field OR an Associate's degree with relevant hands-on experience. + Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs or Fanuc controls, including school work or entry-level hands-on experience. + Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings. + Exposure to an industrial or automation environment, through work experience, internships, or academic projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with HMIs. + Experience with electrical troubleshooting. + Proficiency in electrical wiring. Work Environment Enjoy a dynamic work environment where nearly all projects are custom-engineered, meaning no two projects are the same. You'll work on advanced automation systems from the ground up, alongside experienced engineers and automation specialists. The role requires roughly 50% travel, with assignments typically capped at two weeks, allowing for return home on weekends or between project phases. Travel is fully supported with all meals covered and financial incentives for time on the road. Experience large-scale, complex automation projects, blending field-based problem solving with collaboration alongside engineers, project teams, and customer stakeholders. The team consists of 13 members, including both programmers and technicians, and offers a strong balance of innovation and stability. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bettendorf, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00/hr.
