Help Train the Next Generation of Controls Technicians The Center for Smart Building Technology (C4SBT) at Roxbury Community College is seeking experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC Controls professionals to serve as part-time instructors in our 450-Hour Building Automation Systems Certificate Program. We are looking for professionals with hands-on field experience installing, programming, commissioning, or troubleshooting building control systems who are interested in sharing their expertise and helping train the next generation of BAS technicians. Courses are taught in the evening, making this an ideal opportunity for working BAS technicians, system integrators, and building engineers who want to teach part-time while continuing their work in the field. Teaching experience is not required. Many of our instructors come directly from industry and bring their real-world job-site experience into the classroom. About the BAS Training Program The 450-hour BAS Certificate Program prepares students for careers in: BAS Controls Technician HVAC Controls Technician Building Systems Specialist Building Automation Programmer Smart Building Technician Commissioning Technician Students learn through hands-on lab work, system troubleshooting, equipment installation, and real building automation scenarios using industry-standard equipment. The program focuses on practical skills used in the field, not just theory.
BAS Courses May Include:

Courses include topics such as:
BAS Electrical Fundamentals Controls Devices and Sensors Controls Installation and Wiring HVAC System Integration BAS Programming and Logic BAS Networking and Communication Protocols System Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Startup and Commissioning Building Automation Optimization Instruction combines classroom discussion with hands-on lab work using real BAS equipment and controllers.

Instructors are responsible for teaching and mentoring students using real-world BAS practices.

Deliver hands-on instruction using BAS training equipment and lab systems Demonstrate installation, wiring, configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of BAS components Share real job-site examples to help students understand how BAS systems function in commercial buildings Guide students through system diagnostics, controls programming exercises, and commissioning scenarios Create realistic troubleshooting scenarios for students to solve Assess student progress through lab activities, demonstrations, and practical exercises Maintain attendance and grading records in accordance with program requirements Follow established curriculum and course outlines to ensure consistent program delivery Maintain a reliable and professional teaching schedule Communicate regularly with Center for Smart Building Technology staff regarding student progress Maintain a safe, organized lab environment and follow all safety procedures Industry Experience We Are Looking For We are seeking professionals currently working in roles such as: BAS Controls Technician HVAC Controls Technician BAS Programmer Controls Installer System Integrator Commissioning Technician Building Engineer / Facility Engineer Energy Management Technician Experience with the following BAS platforms is highly valued: Tridium Niagara Johnson Controls Metasys Siemens Desigo Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Automated Logic (ALC) Honeywell Distech Alerton or similar BAS systems Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and other building communication protocols is also valuable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Hands-on experience working with Building Automation Systems or HVAC controls Strong understanding of BAS components, sensors, controllers, and building systems Experience installing, programming, commissioning, or troubleshooting BAS systems Ability to clearly explain technical concepts and demonstrate procedures Interest in mentoring and developing new technicians entering the industry
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of BAS or controls field experience Experience with BAS installation, programming, commissioning, or troubleshooting Manufacturer training or industry certifications Experience mentoring apprentices, technicians, or trainees Familiarity with BAS networking and communication protocols Experience integrating BAS systems with HVAC equipment Experience training staff or leading technical demonstrations Teaching experience is helpful but not required.
