TAB Controls TechnicianAbout Our ClientOur Client is seeking a skilled TAB Controls Technician to support testing, adjusting, balancing, commissioning, and verification of HVAC systems. This role works closely with building automation and controls systems to ensure HVAC equipment, airflow, hydronic systems, and control sequences operate according to design intent, project specifications, and applicable standards.
The technician will play a key role in system commissioning, optimization, troubleshooting, and project turnover.
ResponsibilitiesPerform testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of HVAC air and hydronic systems.
Verify proper operation of HVAC equipment, including air handling units, VAV boxes, fan coils, pumps, and terminal units.
Coordinate with controls technicians and engineers to validate sequences of operation and control point functionality.
Use controls systems to command equipment, adjust setpoints, and verify system response during testing.
Assist with functional performance testing and commissioning activities.
Identify and troubleshoot airflow, temperature, pressure, and control-related issues.
Verify sensor accuracy and proper control valve and damper operation.
Document TAB readings, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
Prepare accurate TAB reports and assist with commissioning documentation.
Communicate findings to project engineers, project managers, and field teams.
Ensure all work complies with project requirements, company standards, and safety regulations.
Maintain proper calibration and use of TAB instruments and tools.
Support system optimization and post-occupancy performance verification as required.
Note:
This position requires a significant amount of 2nd-shift work.
QualificationsExperience in HVAC Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB), HVAC service, controls, or commissioning.
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, airflow principles, and hydronic balancing.
Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) and HVAC control sequences.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control schematics, and specifications.
Proficiency in using TAB instruments such as airflow hoods, manometers, pressure gauges, temperature probes, and related equipment.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
TAB certification (AABC, NEBB, or TABB) preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
